I only get the options that Farvatten kindly illustrated when I am in a sub folder of the Docs folder.I cannot see that when I am looking for named files in the Docs folder that are not in sub folder.

Perhaps this might help. Here's another way to set the 'Name' sort from the Documents folder.

I thought about this last night and I have just logged on this morning to post something like you posted above for him but you had beaten me to it. I hope that this will resolve his problem!

Also, the OP should note that, unfortunately, this (re)sort option for this folder does not permeate throughout the whole system ... it will have to be done for each and every folder.

The OP is doing some form of upload from Firefox, and gets a screen like this (but only showed part of it):
Attaching files issue, they are not in abc order when searching-upload-view-1.png
showing tiles view (with no way to select view sort). One needs to click on the obscure icon indicated, to get a drop-down selector (I couldn't grab all of it):
Attaching files issue, they are not in abc order when searching-upload-view-2.png
Select 'details' and this should be the result:
Attaching files issue, they are not in abc order when searching-upload-view-3.png
Now the 'Name' column is identified, and can be selected to change the sort order, eg:
Attaching files issue, they are not in abc order when searching-upload-view-4.png
I think the view setting sticks, but is not the same as the one I get from launching File Explorer. Further tests show that a view is saved for each folder selected this way, but none of the views are the same as when using Explorer 'normally'.

    2 things:

    1) I have just found that the view saved for any given folder (in this upload window) does not stick for long. I don't know when it fades away, but today I am back to title view.
    2) sorting into groups: you may not want this (perhaps this is what you mean by 'nearest I could get...'), but I can see no repeatable way to change it. At present, for some reason my downloads folder sorts by date, but no others do! I tried resetting all folders (in File Explorer) to my default of no sort, details, but that had no effect (even after logging out, restarting, etc). It seems the download explorer view has its settings stored somewhere, to be updated/changed whenever the genie that controls it decides.

I expect that view for Downloads will disappear by tomorrow. If I ever find out what is controlling this, and how to bring it round to my way of viewing things, I'll let you know.

PS I shouldn't have been surprised to find that Mr Brink has been here already: a quick search on the web found this link: Reset Open and Save As Common Item Dialog Boxes in Windows which mentions registry entries used by the various windows, and has a reg file to reset the views. I downloaded that, ran it, and indeed the reg entries did disappear. But my downloads folder still shows as grouped by date when I try to upload a file!

    Mysteriouser and mysteriouser...
