Skype -- my end gets no voice

I think this Microsoft Skype may drive me crazy. I had no problems with Skype until MS took it over. Since then, it has been one problem after another. I've probably reinstalled it 5 times. This time it didn't help.

The person on the other end hears me fine. I see his video and he sees mine but I cannot hear him.

I can't say if this is related or simply another of the endless Skype malfunctions, but when I try to use the Call Testing Service, it says "Messaging unavailable." That is, I can't use the service.

    I HATE MICROSOFT!!!

    Hi Jim

Has the other person tried the test call and does their mic work?

Are they running W10? If so we can do some things to prove mic is working their end.

Assuming they are on W10, right click Speaker lower right hand corner, click "Open Sound Settings"

A page should show with an Input section. They should be able to talk and see the level meter work.

At the bottom of the page is "Advance Sound Options" Have them open that with Skype started and see if Input device is correct.

Thanks for your reply. This happens with multiple people so it's unlikely to be a problem on the other end.

I use to get a place where I could choose the speaker but I don't see that anymore.

    Hmmm.

    Not sure.

You might be on to something, grayed out is usually unavailable.

Can you open Skype an pick an output source?

If you pick something other than default in the screen shot you provide does it go blue?
