Re Win version 1909 OS Build 18363.836
Is it safe to remove the ProgramData folder for an application long ago uninstalled, e.g., McAfee?
Thanks for your advice!

The ProgramData folder itself should not be touched but the folders inside it should be removable after the programs associated with them has been uninstalled. However, if the program did not get everything removed by their uninstall routine there may be things left like Registry entries that will key a prompt about not being able to, then more work will be needed. But do reboot before doing any such deleting to assure the RAM has been cleared of reference to uninstalled programs.
On their website they have a clean util that removes things uninstall doesnt
Poorly designed software which leaves behind junk like this really annoys me. Yes you can delete such folders if the software has been uninstalled. You can also use the Forced Uninstall mode of Revo Uninstaller which will use a script from Revo to clean out junk like you mention.
- Forced Install -where you browse to a program remnant- is only available with the Pro version of Revo; Wise Uninstaller offers this in the free version. Using it when the majority of the program has been uninstalled may mean you have to do that several times starting with different remnants should there be more left after the first attempt.
Typically it's not been recommended to use uninstallers with security software, however that doesn't mean you can't try it, then very carefully review what's shown for potential deletion.
