    Need Help With LibreOffice

Hi all, I was trying LibreOffice and have a problem. I have a file with all my MS Word Docs in it and one with all my MS Excel files. When I open WRITER and tell it to use the Word Docs file it does and when I open CALC and tell it to use the Excel file it does. Here is the problem, when I go back to Writer it has changed it's self and is now looking in the Excel file.

It is like both programs can only look in one file. Is there any way to tell Writer to open files from THIS file and Calc to open files from THAT file? Thanks in advance. CC

Hi, I guess you mean folder...
I have a file with all my MS Word Docs in it
Your observation is correct, and I found it was discussed as long ago as 2011.
Re: [libreoffice-users] Problem: LibreOffice remembers the last folder I was in (open/save dialog) - The Document Foundation Mailing List Archives

I've not seen any way to deal with this- no option.

File, Recent Documents may help, although this list is common to all components- e.g. a xlsx file I opened in Calc appears in the Recent list opened in Writer - not what anyone would want.

Please note- this would be better asked in a Libre Office-specific forum, rather than one focussed more on the O/S as you would get more people familiar with the suite's features reading your post.

How I'd deal with this is to make use of Listary (free) which I have installed. This has many features, one of which is a favourite folders option. Thus in Libre Office's open dialogue I could middle click empty space, then select and click the appropriate favourite folder.

Thanks Dalchina, about a year ago I did post it on their forums and to this day there is 1 response from a guy saying that he didn't really know but didn't think it could be fixed. That is why I put it on this forum to see what I could find out. As far as Listary I just installed the free version the other day and am really impressed with it. I know what I want could be done with Listary Favorites but I was hoping there was something in Libreoffice that I was just missing. Thanks again for your help.

What are the default settings for file handling by file type, In Windows 10?
Settings > Apps > Default Apps > (scroll down) > Choose default applications by file type.

    or
Right click on filename > Open with > Choose another app (don't select LibreOffice at this stage, that only works for this current event) > if LibreOffice Writer is in the list choose that > TICK THE BOX Always use this app to open etc (CRITICAL) > OK

(Note : you can also right-click filename > Properties > Opens with ... Change > and select LibreOffice Writer, but I'm not sure whether that's a permanent change. Never done it that way)

If LibreOffice Writer is not in the list, > More apps and scroll through that expanded list > again make sure you TICK THE BOX Always use this app to open etc (CRITICAL)

If LibreOffice Writer is not in that expanded list, choose Look for another app on this pc > navigate to where write.exe is installed and choose that. Again, TICK THE BOX Always use this app to open etc (CRITICAL).

Hi, here you can see an example of using 1 function of Listary (there are many) - favourites.

You can see both the (rather small) list in the small Listary window, and how each folder then expands if you wish so you can rapidly navigate a folder tree.

(Clicking 'Add here' adds the current folder to the favourites list -easy).

However I find- and I've never seen this with any other open/save dialogue or file manager- clicking a folder in Listary does change the folder in Listary's dialogue- BUT sends Libre Office to the back- behind othe windows. Weird.

Compare the other way I have of using folder favourites, recent etc - highlighted in orange- Actual Window Manager (not free). This works properly.
