I have 3 mysterious Startup Apps called "Program" - should I worry?

    Hello

If I click on Windows button [bottom left] ==> "Startup Apps" ==>

I seem to have three apps called "Program" and which have no icon.
Worse if I turn them off, then next time I boot they are back again!

How do I find out what they are?
    Should I be worried?

    Thanks

    J

Open Task Manager --> Startup tab and enable Command Line column to view where these programs are executed from.

You can also Autoruns to manage startup programs.

I have killed off all sorts of things. It is truly awful how much crud gets left behind in Windows after you uninstall something. IMHO, it's shamefully poor coding by Microsoft. But I guess we are all stuck giving the man responsible - 2nd richest man in the world - yet more money that he doesn't need.

That reminds me when are the Monopolies Commission gonna wake the **** up and break up some of these "FAANG" giants? Yep, the same ones that don't even pay their taxes.

You can use Autoruns to delete those startup entries.

    Actually that's a misconception.
    1. It's true that quite often files and registry keys may be left behind when uninstalling.
    2. It is not true that's Microsoft's responsibility, if they didn't write the program.
    3. What's left behind depends on how thorough the author was in writing the uninstaller.

How can you deal with that? Routinely uninstall programs with either e.g.
    Revo Uninstaller
    or
    Geek Uninstaller

Of course- that's configured by the author, and is used when conventionally uninstalling, and also by uninstallers such as those I mentioned as the first stage.

The uninstallers then proceed to perform a scan for remnants.
