    Install floppy spanned Dos App?

This is not an urgent matter as I'm involved in other things right now. But I've pondered how I might do this at some point. So I thought I ask if any of you have done this.

I have some old floppy IMG files of a an old Civil Eng Pipe Slope program. Was wondering how I might install it on my current Win10 Laptop. I don't have a floppy drive and besides I'm satisfied the setup is a 16 bit app, so I'm going to need to install it in an WinXP VM or Dos VM with a virtual floppy. I don't have a problem with the VM since I've used VirtualBox before.
But about the floppies, they don't need to be bootable but the setup install spans over several floppies (for those of you old enough to remember such). At the end of each setup on a given floppy it then says to remove the current floppy and insert Disc #2 or 3 etc. I'm pondering how that is going to play out since the setup code expects to see the next floppy in the same drive. At some point I will install VirtualBox and play around with logistics but just wondering if anybody has done this and have any info on such

Well, this is what I would do:

    1. Purchase or borrow a USB floppy drive
    2. Copy the disks to a location on your pc
    3. Create a Virtual box in the Windows flavor that will run your program i.e. Windows XP (Windows 95 or Windows 98 might be better)
    4. Then install the software on the Windows XP box using the copied disks.

From there it will be trial and error. But the first ting to do is to get the disks copied to a hard drive so you can access them anytime.

    Hope this helps.

Jus to add to what play2mefish said, as far as I can remember (its been a long time since I installed anything using .img files in Virtualbox), you could just a "Add Floppy Controller" and add then "Add new storage attachment" to that Controller in VBox storage settings of the virtual machine before you start that virtual machine.

Then, once inside the running machine, just feed the images one after the other as and when the installer asks for the "next disk". For that, use the VirtualBox Window - Menu> Devices> Floppy Drive> Choose disk image, and the floppy drive within the Virtual machine should act juat as if you had swapped the floppies.

I tried it some time back with both MS-DOS and Windows 3.x and Win95 but the issue was in how each disk was coded to look for the identity of the next disk called for, didn't get it to work properly.
