A player where I can speed up video without audio pitch change ?

I have tons of tutorials/videos to watch on a limited time notice , so I have been watching them on 1.25x speed where the sound pitch is least annoying but still that doesn't resolve the issue much .

Now I know that video editors can do a 2x speed up to video without changing pitch through certain filters but then problem is encoding time and the technicalities may actually consume more time than save , so any body know of a video player that can do that on the go ?

VLC Media player keeps the pitch constant when speeding up playback. Much beyond 1.7x the spoken word starts to become too fast to comprehend though, above 2x it's virtually impossible to follow.

To control speed of a video in VLC using shortcuts:
Speed up: ] Key in keyboard
Speed down: [ Key in keyboard
Normal speed: = Key in keyboard
good find , that should do the trick , thank you very much

Gosh, I really feel like I must be missing something here.

Don't the voices get high pitched like chipmunks when you speed up playback? And that at 1.7x are then unintelligible? If so, I'm not sure I understand how the pitch is being constant.

That's what I'm hearing in VLC when I increase the playback speed, unless there's some other preference setting I'm missing, but I looked and didn't see any.

Correction, I see under Tools > Preferences > Audio > Effects > Enable Time-Stretching audio

Wow, with that enabled, that really does work well. Now I understand.

However there is this other option for other players perhaps that don't Time-Stretch and might off set the 'chipmunk' sound, a setting in Windows that can pitch shift down the audio at any speed.

Control Panel > Sound > Playback > Speaker / Headphone properties > Enhancements. > Pitch Shift > Setting

Setting it to -4 helps offset the high pitch somewhat.

I ditched VLC a couple of years ago. PotPlayer is what I prefer.

With "Use echo free audio time streching" there is no chipmunk effect at 2x speed.

However if "audio pitch shifting" is used then I get the chipmunk effect.

No, VLC and the other players recommended above process the audio to lower its pitch in proportion to the increased speed of the video. No 'Chipmunk' effect, the net effect is that you hear the audio at its original pitch - but faster. Music is OK, at 2x but it gets difficult to take in the sense of speech heard at twice it's normal rate.

Yes, I see now why I was getting the 'Chipmunk' and therefore confused about your post.

Apparently with VLC versions over the years, I had at some point turned off this preference that is ON by default.

    Tools > Preferences > Audio > Effects > [√] Enable Time-Stretching audio

That has to be enabled otherwise the pitch is not consistent with speed.

If you wanna sound just like the really annoying disclaimer voice at the end of a commercial where you feel like you just wanna punch the guy in the face, definitely use that feature.
