    How to always run a default program in Administrator mode

    I've set a particular program to be the default for a given extension, so that when I double-click a file with that extension it is automatically opened with the program. In addition, though, I'd like that program to always run in Administrator mode. Is there a way of doing that with Windows 10 v. 1909?

    (As it is, when I double-click the file, the default program will open it in User mode and will continue to run until it requires Administrator authority and then send an error message. At that point I'll have to close the program, run the program again in Administrator mode, then finally open the desired file from within the program.)

    You could rt click the .exe for the default program, then under the Compatibility tab, click the check box "Run this program as administrator"

    I'm afraid I don't follow. If I right-click the executable file I get a pop-up menu with a number of choices. "Run as Administrator" will of course do what it says, but only that one time. The only Compatibility choice is "Troubleshoot compatibility". There's also a Properties choice which opens up another window with a number of tabs, none of which is Compatibility.

    I'm still not following. What is the program in the background of your screenshot? As you can see, when I right-click the executable and select Properties, I get a window with exactly the same tabs as yours except for the Compatibility tab.

    The program is irrelevant- it's an arbitrary example of a xyzpqr.exe so I could rt click it.

    The peculiar thing is you're missing the compatibility tab. See:
    Add or Remove Compatibility Tab on Properties Page in Windows

    (Try a Google search as I did for
    compatibility tab missing in properties
    )

    This is weird. I have Windows 10 v. 1909, but there was no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppCompat key in my Registry. I added both the AppCompat key and the DWORD DisablePropPage and set it to 00000000. Now the tab appears.

    Thanks!
