Adobe Reader XI file closes 10-20 seconds after opening

    Running Windows10 v.1909 (OS Build 18363.778)

A couple of weeks ago my PDF files began to automatically close a few seconds after opening. I restarted my PC, and it seemed to fix the problem. I am using Adobe Reader XI v11.0.23. This began happening again today, and restarting my PC is not having any effect this time. One online solution YouTube was to run Eula.exe found in (C:)\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader. The suggestion came from someone who was experiencing the file [I]immediately[I] closing without ANY delay. Compatibility troubleshooting resulted in the message that the program was not compatible with Windows 10, but it worked perfectly for several months after I bought the PC. I prefer Adobe Reader XI because Reader DC does not allow adding text or adding signature images. I was going to try System Restore, but I thought I'd post the problem first.

    Thanks for any help.

    Have you updated the app?

And it's definitely Windows 10 as I ran it on Windows 10 up to 1903 before I replaced it with Acrobat Pro 2017. Wasn't having issues when I replaced; just wanted the newer version.

And you don't need to move the DC; the standalone version of Acrobat Pro 2017 can be had without subscription. If you're a college student as I am, it can be had for $119. All you have to have is a .edu email address that you have access to.

I stopped using the bloated Adobe Reader a while ago and now just use Chrome to view and print pdf files.

Don't know why users are so enamoured with Adobe Reader

Plenty of freeware alternatives to Adobe Reader ...
    - Foxit Reader
    - SumatraPDF
    - etc etc
    - web browsers

Uninstall Adobe Reader and use an alternative

Cause people are smart enough not to listen to all the FUD out there and use the apps that suit their needs; not those of others who believe everything is inferior except for what they say isn't

And the last time I checked "Adobe Reader" was also free

    Peace

Hardly suiting the need in the case of the OP ...

    As are the alternatives.

It's called education and freedom of choice.

And clearly another case of just because it comes with Windows doesn't mean it's the best, and doesn't mean it's the (only) one that has to be used.

I haven't used Adobe for literally decades. Back then there were security issues.

Have no idea if those issues have been fixed

Here is what I use and never had any problem with it

    Download Foxit Reader - MajorGeeks

BTW, MajorGeeks is an excellent source for software with no viruses

If you guys are looking for me to justify Adobe's products you're looking in the wrong direction. And I'm not concerned with the FUD noise

And there is no perfect piece of software in existence - None!!!

My next reply will be to the OP's query.

    Peace:)

I agree. All software has pros & cons

The best software is the one you Personally like best. And that can change if you find something you like more

After all, "PC" means Personal Computer, a personal mind amplifier that you sharpen per your needs
