Installing and Configuring MadVR and LavFilters on media players

Thanks for the MadVR link. I'd be inclined to stick with the stable release.

I used this guide to configure LAV Filters in PotPlayer:

PotPlayer update preferences:

For PotPlayer you'd want LAV Filters & MadVR.
Firewall: Block potplayermini.exe

NOTE: Much of that particular guide does not apply if using LAV Filters but you can use installation options and ignore sections:

Unless you prefer FFmpeg over LAV Filters. Install FFmpeg component anyway when installing PotPlayer.


I don't know anything about XYV's Filters in PotPlayer.

RE: MBC-HC/BE.

I just let KCP handle the install then configured a few options. It works fine so for me there's no need to have the latest updates unless something breaks.

It's using LAV Filters on my machine so there's no need for FFmpeg.

There's an .ini.file option in the first screenshot that I forgot to outline.

LAV Filters are an open-source Direct Show audio-video filter wrapper, written by a very good german developer, of the FFMPEG libraries, focused on high quality direct playback. The trio (Splitter, Video Decoder and Audio Decoder) is reliable, stable, with really few bugs. Respect to the MPC-BE or Pot Player integrated filters, the LAV combo sometimes exhibit some issue when dealing with streaming video. But the developer explained that its filters are not really focused on the compatibility for online videos. Infact, for playing high quality video and audio files from disk, LAV Filters remain the most reliable combo, correct, a de facto standard for HTPC users on Windows enviroment.

Bottom line is - I don't understand what you are looking for but if it's better quality playback then try BOTH PotPlayer and MBC-HC (whatever version but BE worked better for me) and try PotPlayer with FFmpeg.

Then add MadVR and try that.

Then add LAV Filters and try that.

You should notice the difference.

Actually installs an old stable build. More recent builds are nightly or beta but you can download from here:

MPC-BE download | SourceForge.net

and copy/ replace the files across then reconfigure settings.

In my opinion it works fine as is. No need to update. Same goes for Potplayer (unless there's a security fix or missing must have feature)

Where to start is download Potplayer and extras (all extra download options when installing)

Then run it as is but configure it to save settings to .ini file.

Then add MadVR by running the install.bat as admin.

Go into Potplayer and set video renderer as Madshi.

Play a video.

Right click MadVR system tray and edit required settings. It should work fine as is but my personal choice is to apply Luma Sharpening under both

Processing > Image Enhancments
and Scaling Algorihms > Upscaling Refinement

Just get used to that and add LAV filters later.
