Thanks for the MadVR link. I'd be inclined to stick with the stable release.

Ok. I will try out the filehippo version of PotPlayer. Do you have to block the update check from an firewall or is there a setting in PotPlayer (or even editing an ini file) to disable automatic update checking?

So for either MPC-HC/BE and PotPlayer do either or both come installed with FFMpeg?

Also, for either MPC-HC/BE and PotPlayer, I want MadVR, Lavfilters, and XYVs filters, correct? Are there any other audio/video filters I should add?

    Thanks!

I think that I posted already but just in case:
    PotPlayer update preferences:

For PotPlayer you'd want LAV Filters & MadVR.
    Firewall: Block potplayermini.exe

RE: FFmpeg - refer to Potplayer Installation Guide Step 4 here:

PotPlayer - PotPlayer installation, configuration and optimization wiki

NOTE: Much of that particular guide does not apply if using LAV Filters but you can use installation options and ignore sections:

    Potplayer Filter Control Settings
    Potplayer Video Decoder Configuration
Potplayer FFmpeg Audio Deoder Optimization and Configuration

Unless you prefer FFmpeg over LAV Filters. Install FFmpeg component anyway when installing PotPlayer.

I don't know anything about XYV's Filters in PotPlayer.

    RE: MBC-HC/BE.

I just let KCP handle the install then configured a few options. It works fine so for me there's no need to have the latest updates unless something breaks.

It's using LAV Filters on my machine so there's no need for FFmpeg.

There's an .ini.file option in the first screenshot that I forgot to outline.

That helps. So do the FFMpeg and LAV filters basically do the same thing?

I'm not expert on that but see comment here:

    Download LAVFilters-0.70.2-Installer.exe - VideoHelp

LAV Filters are an open-source Direct Show audio-video filter wrapper, written by a very good german developer, of the FFMPEG libraries, focused on high quality direct playback. The trio (Splitter, Video Decoder and Audio Decoder) is reliable, stable, with really few bugs. Respect to the MPC-BE or Pot Player integrated filters, the LAV combo sometimes exhibit some issue when dealing with streaming video. But the developer explained that its filters are not really focused on the compatibility for online videos. Infact, for playing high quality video and audio files from disk, LAV Filters remain the most reliable combo, correct, a de facto standard for HTPC users on Windows enviroment.
Bottom line is - I don't understand what you are looking for but if it's better quality playback then try BOTH PotPlayer and MBC-HC (whatever version but BE worked better for me) and try PotPlayer with FFmpeg.

Then add MadVR and try that.

Then add LAV Filters and try that.

    You should notice the difference.

My intention is to perform a clean reinstallation of Win10 and third party software soon. I am parsing through my configuration, getting rid of any un-necessary, bloated and/or buggy software. I want to have all of the software, add-ons, tweaks, modification, etc. pre-chosen to make the re-installation as quick and easy as possible. In the context of the media players and filters, I just want to pick a couple of the best media players (MPC-BE and clean PotPlayer) with the important tweaks to be applied and filters to be added (FFMPEG, MadVR, LAV) to they can be reinstalled with no issues.

I will evaluate the video quality of clean PotPlayer and MPC-BE without filters, and with FFMPEG, MadVR, and LAV, as you suggested. You provided plenty of information about configuring the filters with PotPlayer. AVSForums, Doom9 forums, and Wiki-MikeJung seem to have lots of information about configuring. Really way too much. Not sure where to start. I did find a couple of additional websites about MPC-BE LAV/MadVR configuration as well.

Back to the Kawaii Codec Pack .... regarding the latest version...does the codec pack itself find the latest versions of the program and filters and then install? Or does it install and the user manually updates? Because when I installed Kawaii Codec Pack, the 2016 or so old versions were installed. What did you do to have the latest versions installed?

    Thanks!

Actually installs an old stable build. More recent builds are nightly or beta but you can download from here:

    MPC-BE download | SourceForge.net

and copy/ replace the files across then reconfigure settings.

In my opinion it works fine as is. No need to update. Same goes for Potplayer (unless there's a security fix or missing must have feature)

Where to start is download Potplayer and extras (all extra download options when installing)

Then run it as is but configure it to save settings to .ini file.

Then add MadVR by running the install.bat as admin.

Go into Potplayer and set video renderer as Madshi.

    Play a video.

Right click MadVR system tray and edit required settings. It should work fine as is but my personal choice is to apply Luma Sharpening under both

    Processing > Image Enhancments
and Scaling Algorihms > Upscaling Refinement

Just get used to that and add LAV filters later.
