Is there a way to disable "how do you want to open this file?" msg?

Confirmed: the tutorial doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

I have not tested this yet (and won't for a few days), but I am trying to see what other people are experiencing right now because this is a huge issue in a work environment where we don't want users getting this dialog box.

That is correct. Neither 'fix' worked in my case, and I did double-check both to make sure that the changes 'stuck'.

Some programs do not seem to get informed when I choose a default to open certain file types. So PIE Studio and Telegram do not remember that I use MPC-HC for mov files and ask every time, whether I tick "Always use this app" or not. I haven't found a solution and don't know whether it's the program's fault or Win10.

For me it's the opposite. I like Windows asking how I want to open anything, just to be sure.

But after asking me about opening a mov for the fourth time in five minutes, I want it to do what it says - keep using my default.

You can put a tick mark to make it the default value.

You can put the check mark there but it still keeps asking the next time you click the link or another that uses the same app.

I didn't do anything special to solve it. But the problem stopped when I updated my Office 2010 to Office 2013 , , , :)

So, apparently it is an Office 2010 on W10 issue.

Interesting though. Before I upgraded Office, I also had the "how do you want" issue even when using a web-based email client (Comcast) and clicking on a link in the email. That is no longer the case.

Puzzling things, these PCs . . .
