Can any program convert VID file to diffrent format

I have noticed some time ago...when i download a movie ( legally i might add )...and check the format..it is a VID file..and cannot find any video converter that supports this format...and where did it come from ?...and why use it ?

Also, i cannot find a suitable player to play this format as some of them during playing the file the player freezes.....

    Any suggestions anyone ?

    Thank you

My OS is Windows 10 Pro with latest updates.

VID files can be AVI files, so change the file type to AVI and work from there.

    Tried
    - Vidcoder
    - AviDemux

That sounds more like a corrupted content, rather than a player fault.

    Tried ...
    - VLC
    - Daum Potplayer

Interesting to see if either of the above converters work, whether that solves the playing/freezing problem.

Care to share the download source location of the files so we can test ?

EDIT : Download MediaInfo to check the content type of the file. Video files (.avi, .mkv.mp4, etc) are just "containers" for an audio stream and a video stream. It's the format of these streams that are more important to know about, than the file name extension.

    Thanks for reply,

I looked at Vidcoder...far too many settings which i probably will not use...i am using AviDemux..which is simpler to use.

    Thanks issue solved.

KODI also will play more formats (audio and video) than most other players. Works on Windows without issue.

    Cheers
