    Skype Video Chatting

    Afternoon, folks.

A couple of my students and I tried video chatting and it looked like the keystone kops. One time, we could see things nicely, and then another time, we couldn't get Skype to cooperate with us!

    I think we need help!

Check to see if there is just ONE host and the rest clients.
having more than one host might be a conflict.

I’m in the same boat. I just started two days ago and I so far I’ve learned that you really need a good Ethernet connection. WiFi and an older Dell lappy can be problematic. I also learned that now is not a good time to upgrade your webcam, demand is very high and lots of places are sold out and backordered, especially the cheaper models.

Oh, crumb! I hadn't thought of everyone and their dogs needing a webcam! Mine was acting up and I'm not sure if it's the webcam or the connectors. Since they don't cost all that much, I was going to just get a new one.

Maybe I should get a new "extender" first.

I'm pretty sure that 50 mbps is adequate.

Sounds logical, since I'm the group "owner" and a student initiated the video chat. Would that make a difference, Thomas?

It could be. You could try Having the student being the Host with his/her own group

You would get notifications To join Student's Group , just as they get to join yours.

Its like making a Phone call.

When we Skype Jenny in England we use Mom and Dad Group
when she calls home She uses Jenny group.

I guess I should say what we want to accomplish.

I teach Windows 10 at the Senior Activity Center in our town. Of course, since we're all in the "danger zone", the Center closed down last Friday.

Was it a coincidence that we were studying Skype when everything so rudely shut down? Who knows! However, since we're pretty much all novices at this, and since we hadn't actually made it to studying video chat yet, well, you know . . .

We want to continue on to the rest of Windows as follows:

Call a group meeting. I, as instructor, will share my screen, showing everyone how to do this or that. I can show my screen, and the two students I chatted with today can show theirs, so that's not a huge problem.

However, we can't seem to get Skype to obey us as far as our screen works.

How old is this one, Thomas? I've found that almost all Skype tutorials on YouTube are at least five years old.

I've seen one by this guy before, but can't remember how old his video was.
