Netflix to reduce Picture quality (Bit Rate) in Europe

    Hi folks

seems with the problems of people working from home massively more, staying in (forced in some cases) and in general total increase in the use of the internet Netflix is reducing the bit rate of its streams for a while.

Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days - BBC News

So far nobody is reporting mega problems with Internet / Mobile phone systems yet so at least that's good news. However for those with nice large TV's looks like you're not going to get your fix of 4K UHD TV series etc.

    Cheers

While I am not in Europe, I think I could survive a small hit to my video quality for the benefit of the world right now.

Thanks for sharing the info, I had not read about that yet.

I read that YouTube was going to SD also.

Certainly won't notice- I use the basic rate service- but will use it more given the situation! Unfortunately that reduction won't help with the contribution made to global warming...

I agree that it seems to be a sensible movement.

I've seen that chatter on Netflix myself and I'm in the states. I'm also an HD Netflix subscriber.

Anyway, with the world in a dire situation it is I suspect net traffic will increase 10 fold so that'll strain a lot of services. I expect a lot of online gamers to be impacted as well as everyone will have to pitch in to ease traffic.

We live in dire times now
