    I have a program that won't work because I can't register it -

I have a program called codewallet on my PC which is a personal encrypted database in which I have 15 years of data stored.
I recently re-installed windows which I have done before and had no problems re-registering it.

BUT now the company seems to have gone out of business! Their website is dead and I cannot register my program.

I am completely stuffed now and do not know what to do next. I assume that somewhere in my registry there is somewhere I could make it think its registered but I have no idea how to do it.

Remembering this is a legal copy could anyone advise if there is something I could do.

The Company that produced it is definitely defunct !

    thanks

If registration interacts with the developer's site, then as you suggest the outcome would be held either in the registry or in some form in a folder related to the program. The choice would be the developer's.

If you have a disk image of your old installation, you could examine the program's folders there. Given it's an encryption program, the way that data is held may be particula to an installation- depends how it is done.

One way or another you could also then examine its registry locations offline.

Beyond that, I suspect you may be in difficulty if they're out of business.

    Thanks
I do have an old Macrium Reflect image. I also tried re-installing it using ashampoo uninstaller which makes a log of reg changes.
but I can't see anything that stands out as being what I'm looking for.
I guess that it would be hidden away to avoid people hacking it.

I used the old image today to get it working but obviously a can't do that every time i need it.
So while I had it running I exported the data as a text file.
That's not so great but at least the data is not lost.
I started writing a program to parse the text into folders and text notes.
I'm going to fill up a treeview with folders as nodes etc .
will probably have it running a very basic tree tomorrow where at least I can read the data easily.
Will take a lot more time to get all the functionality of codewallet back though.

It was a great little program and I can't find anything else like it on the market

Very annoyed the people who sold it didn't email all the people who paid money for it with some sort of fix..

    thanks

Gald you were able to recover your data. Time to move on with a newer program if possible.
