    Windows Store

    Greetings,
I am having difficulty installing Windows Store apps. This occurred yesterday. In case it's relevant, I also uninstalled 2 apps. When I attempted to reinstall one of the apps I had uninstalled earlier, the store said I owned the app (perhaps there's a difference between ownership and possession).
When I attempt to install an app, the download begins and seems to complete. The page then says 'Error'. When I click on 'See Details', the popup says the my device restarted while the app was being downloaded. If there was a restart, it happened so fast, I didn't see it :)

I did some reading. Ran the Store trouble-shooter, which indicated that the Temporary Files location had changed and finished by stating that nothing was found. I then ran the tool to reset the Store. Neither one of these worked.

I did a routine in powershell to reset the store. Now not only can I not get apps. The store won't open at all. I should also mentions that I updated to the latest version of Windows yesterday. It caused issues with my virtual MIDI ports and so I uninstalled the update until Microsoft gets it right.

I would appreciate some assistance in getting this solved.
    Thanks,
    Graham

I updated to the latest version of Windows yesterday.
Hi, I assume you mean you updated to 1909, then reverted to 1903, as your profile says you are on 1903.
Otherwise, could you please make a definitive statement as to what you updated from and to, and what you uninstalled- the 1909 enablement package? The latest CU for 1903? for 1909?

The 'latest version' of Windows is a very vague term- 'latest' may vary from user to user. The forum prompts you to enter your exact Windows build. Please could you do so.

If you've not tried it, see
Clear and Reset Store Cache in Windows 10
Re-register Microsoft Store app in Windows 10

Further: Please create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user, and check whether the Store works normally. If it does not, and only then, you may consider an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data. Tutorial available.

Or you could restore your PC from a recent disk image if you use it routinely - e.g. Macrium Reflect (free- paid) - tenforums members tirelessy recommend the routine use of disk imaging so users can help themselves recover readily in many cases.

For reference: Please note that if you upgraded to 1909, some users experience particular problems with file explorer search, and problems with this update are experienced by some:

    Thanks dal,

I certainly should have been more specific. My apologies. Nothing but laziness. I did all of my updates up to 1909 (18363.719). After installing that update, I had issues with MIDI virtual port drivers and an attempt to uninstall a driver in Device Manager trashed my system. I had to shut down using the physical button on the machine and couldn't get past POST after that. I recovered using a backup.

I then uninstalled KB4540673. It was then that I started to have issues with the Windows store. I have since rolled my system back to a time before I installed that update. My current build is 18363.693, and the machine is stable and I have access to the Windows strore.

I do apologize for not bringing my post up to date before wasting your time. This is the first time I have had to roll back an update; and I have had Windows 10 since the early days.

What I am wondering is what are the troubleshooting steps should I have Windows store problems in future.

    Thanks

Hi, glad to hear your PC is working.

You have most of the possibilities above- either in my post or things you've already tried.
Very occasionally there are problems at MS's end.
Then there are odd things like:
    Windows Store not working

Note the last link I posted refers to the update with which you had problems.
