Hello knossoss22, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Windows does have a compatibility mode feature that you could use to try and get software designed for previous Windows to hopefully run in Windows 10.

The tutorial below can provide more details on this and how to use compatibility mode. If you have any questions, please just let us know.

Windows 10 s very good at installing old software. Run the installer from an admin account and set the compatibility tab to match the OS the installer was originally designed for. You might need to run the installed program as an administrator.

Microsoft has always taken compatibility with older software very seriously. Many well written applications from the Windows 95 era run on Windows 10 without any compatibility settings at all. 32 bit versions will often run 16 bit applications that are even older. Starting with Windows 2000 Windows has provided settings that will often allow otherwise incompatible applications to run. In some cases Windows will make changes to it's behavior when some popular older applications are detected. Some have said that Microsoft has gone too far in this and the overhead of all this compatibility has become too great. They do have a point.

But there are exceptions. And considering the amount of software available for Windows the numbers of these applications are high. There are some applications that simply will not run on Windows 10 no matter what you do. Microsoft publishes rules that application developers need to follow if their applications are to work with a new version of the OS. But for a variety of reasons these rules are not always followed and problems occur. This compatibility is a particular problem with games. Lack of compatibility is often seen as a plus because it requires users to upgrade to the latest version of the game.
