Issues with high DPI and iTunes

    Hi,

Is there anything I can do to alleviate some of the visual issues I am getting with iTunes and a few other programs like Chrome where text and fonts are appearing blurred, bleached out or only partially visible. The text is unreadable for any one or a combination of these reasons and to make it more odd, in the case of iTunes, not all text appears this way. Some text is legible although not crisp and "normal".

My iTunes is the 64bit version although the 32 bit did the same. It is current and up to date. The 64 bit version lacks the option to Disable display scaling on high DPI settings. I can only make some subtle changes, none of which helped.

Contacting Apple was as productive as you can imagine, given I'm still searching for a solution.

My Windows is 10; version 1903 OS Build 18362.657

Have you configured ClearType for better looking fonts.

Click the Windows 10 Start button, type Adjust ClearType text.

At first I couldn't recall if I had but after opening it, I did recall doing it once before.
I went ahead and did it again but these programs still look the same.

This is how my iTunes appears.

Try this to see if it helps:

Right-click on your shortcut to iTunes and select properties. Select the "Compatibility" tab and then select Change high DPI settings > Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: > System > OK > OK.

That has solved a lot of high DPI issues with various apps for me, although I have to admit I've not encountered the fuzzy text as you have.

@hsehestedt; It's a 10% improvement. I have tried all of these settings, nothing restores normal appearance.

Here's an article with some other possible ideas. Hopefully something here helps....

I recently returned a 4K monitor because of this issue.
The bottom line was that unless the software is new enough, or updated, to specifically scale properly to high resolutions then you are stuck. I run a lot of older, outdated software so I was faced with either spending hundreds of dollars to modernize everything, or return the monitor. I was not ready for prime time. WinAmp was the worst at dealing with scaling, almost unreadably blurry. Almost had me going for Foobar. But in the end way too much money and work just to do ultra high def. Not enough utils of enjoyment to make it worth it for me.

If you do the settings changes folks mentioned above, as I did too, and the result is still unsatisfactory then you basically have those options: live with it, upgrade your software (If you can), or bail on high resolution.

Is there a newer version of iTunes to try? Chrome is a real surprise.

My iTunes is the most current version. I uninstalled and reinstalled from the latest installer pack to be sure.

Chrome is also up to date but oddly, it isn't every web site. Just a few, American Express being one that comes to mind.

My monitor is 4K but I can't change it, it's part of the computer as it is an all-in-one, like a desktop version of a non portable laptop.

This is really ircking me...but it seems the solution is out of my hands.

The solution hsehestedt posted in post #4 works as best as possible with all programs that will scale. But the fuzzy text does not clear up completely. Maybe there will be a software fix sometime soon.

Some of those steps are not relevant or pedestrian. Such as "Check Power Cable to fix Blurry text on Windows 10", "System Restore", "Disconnect Devices" *because I put a 3lb neodymium speaker near my monitor that only blurs text.

It mentions the DPI which I can't alter because 64bit iTunes disallows turning DPI off and the few settings I can manipulate have near zero effect. This was already mentioned. Someone else suggested the clear type which I had tried but tried again for the sale of no stone unturned and it didn't help.

I think this is an Apple issue and because my screen is 4k. I don't have any options until Apple addresses this with an update.
