Good choices, about POT PLAYER, it is absolutely the most customizable I have ever seen which makes me wonder why so many tech sites push VLC player, it is not even close to as good. Could VLC be paying these people secretly to hype that thing or are they just crappy reporters?
VLC meets most peoples needs and they are familiar with it.

I don't have a clue why everyone (it seems) thinks that it's great when clearly it isn't. You only need to try a few decent alternatives to realise that.

Hmmmm No one chose Windows 10.

So which "Favourite child" would you choose there?
    1809, 1903, 1909, 2004 etc.?

For me it's "Google Chrome" my path to knowledge!

1909 the most stable release. I do have fast mode releases and 2004 on other machines.

Most people just want to load a video, play it, pause, rewind, restart, adjust brightness, use subtitles and have it just work.

VLC ticks all the boxes and people have used it for years.

Sure you can find software with lots of features but most are not frequently used.

To me, this is like a tumble drier that has 20 settings for different fabrics (a lot of sorting).

In reality most people use 2 settings - low for (not exclusively) ladies delicates, and hot for everthing else.

Basically, VLC is robust and does what it says on the can.

That is why people use it.

I still live good old notepad, and people keep saying use notepad++ etc. I do now and then as its column select feature is handy but for most text editing, you can't beat the simplicity/reliability/familiarity of notepad.

Although I hate the phrase, sometimes "Less is More".

I used to be a fan of KMplayer and Pot player but since VLC included most codecs I use it as only player. For long time before them I used WMP and it's mini substitute. W10 Movies APP is probably worst MM player ever.

CorelDraw Home & Student X7 (Last 3 PC License version)
Add Brink's "restore Windows Photo Viewer" registry edit

OK I'll give the store apps some more love too.
