    Classic Shell to Classic Start

I've used Classic Shell since I upgraded to Windows 10. It has been a lifesaver. The developer stopped supporting the program a couple of years age, but someone picked up on it and developed a fork called "Classic Start". Classic Shell is still working fine for me, but is there anyone out there that thinks I should install Classic Start. If so, do I need to uninstall Classic Shell first or will Classic Start upgrade Classic Shell automatically?

Development of Classic Shell may have ceased, but the product still works. I'm on Windows 1909 ... no problems.

Thanks. I'm aware that Classic Shell still works, but am concerned that one day Microsoft will issue an incompatible Windows 10 release.

It's call Open Shell. It will install over top your Classic Shell. Export (save) your Classic Shell settings to your Desktop first, just to be safe. Than kill Classic Shell before installing Open shell. After install, right click the Start Button to wake it up. If settings are not correct, import them from the saved copy on your Desktop. You want the one I point to here:

I believe that Ten Forums member @N9NU was involved in the development of Classic Start (now renamed as Open Shell), so should be in a position to answer that.

Then the vendor or developer adapts. Always been that way. At the very beginning of the Github project when those fellows took it over, they fixed an issue that prevented Classic Shell from running at all. MS code did change shortly thereafter to allow the original CS to function again. Point is, they adapted, because they didn't want to see the app die. It's still being developed. I'm on .143, the latest beta, with no issues.

Like any software house or project, they must code to MS code, not the other way around. I have no concerns at all that Open Shell will continue to be maintained and work thru many, many more Windows 10 evolution steps.
