Not sure you got a correct answer but to permanently set Adobe Reader to as your default PDF reader (been there done that got the trophy) you need to go to...

Start, Settings, Apps. In the left pane click Default apps. Scroll down and click "choose default apps by file type". Under Associate file types with specific apps "name" column scroll down to .pdf and assign Adobe Reader. That's it.

BTW I'm using Adobe Acrobat 2017 as my default pdf reader. I've also never ever had an issue with Adobe Reader or Acrobat and I've been using one or the other since Windows XP.
Mine's already set to Adobe Reader DC. We'll see if it lasts next time I use WinZip. I'll get back to you.

I'm actually baffled as to why "WinziP" would cause Acrobat to be removed as your default PDF reader. That makes no sense. I too use WinZip and have never seen the issue you put forth. Currently running WinZip 24, before that I was running WinZip19 and still never had an issue. Your issue is weird to say the least.

Weird it may be, but if you care to research tenforums - 3-4 years ago, if an old old old version of Winzip was installed it caused reversion to default. Found, reported, and confirmed several times by different people.

Why? No idea. There was one other program that did that.

I'm using an old v 11. I like it, I paid for it, and I don't feel like learning a new interface (in fact, I'm getting sick of all kinds of tools changing interfaces that I like -- though I don't mind when they fix the ones I don't like).

TBF, it only seems to change the default (and the icon for .pdf files) when I use it for certain operations. Not sure what they are yet. But it's clearly the cause.

Glad you sorted out the Winzip issue. As it's marked solved, seems you did find the problem resolved.

Without a Win key you lose numerous useful shortcuts.

Note you can take screenshots of items that disappear when clicking elsewhere with a PrtSc key - if you have one- then edit that, or more conveniently using the time option in Snip and Sketch:

Sorry I didn't look for your build number in your specs- I've got out of the habit of looking there as almost no posters put it there.
Honestly, it may not have been there at the time you replied. No need for apology.

Even after using this technique, using my old WinZip has reset the default.

It's not really a big deal at this point. I know when it's happening, so I can reset it quickly. And it's a "feature" of an old program that can't really be fixed.

Use whatever you want but when an old app causes issues you can't complain. WinZip 11 is 14-years old!!! The latest version is WinZip 24. You're 13 versions behind!

Perhaps you should consider something newer than a 14-year old version. Still weird that happens.

I am aware. Not complaining (well, yes I am). I will obviously be forced to move up soon.

    Simply Amazing........
All you need to do is get up to speed with the latest versions and quit playing around would old versions and program like WinZip. I don't use WinZip nor Adobe Acrobat reader because Win 10 latest version which has ZIP and Adobe Reader build into itself.
    Can't get any simpler.
