Windows 10 home version 1909. All of a sudden Cortana won't open programs it used to. When I ask her to open something I get a "Something went wrong, Please try again later". It used to work fine. She'll do some things but opening programs she used to just doesnt work anymore.
Hello, note that recently there has been a problem which some have experienced due to MS server issues. This has affected search from the 'taskbar' search box, and as Cortana needs a connection to process such commands (rather surprisingly perhaps) I wonder if this might be related.
Otherwise, is Windows search running properly?

If still problems, if you create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user, and try then, does that work?
History: what happened before this occurred? Did you make any changes?
Do you have a System restore point you could use?
Cortana will shut down my computer, give me the weather, go to web sites I ask her to do. Search is working but she will not open notepad anymore or any other programs she used to do. I dont want to do a restore becasue I dont want to lose programs I have. The only thing changed on here was Windows updates. She understands my vocie command but I get that error, Something went wrong, try again later! I appreciate you input, thank you.
Another thing that happened a short time ago was that MS's servers caused search from the taskbar box to fail for a number of people. Similarly, I believe voice interpretation requires a server connection. That's another possibility.
See if you can compare notes with someone else using 1909, and follow the rest of my post #2.
Just to confirm, I've asked someone who has 1909, and Cortana on build 1909 (as of earlier today) is capable of launching programs.
Perhaps your problem has disappeared now being a glitch with the servers.. or you could try this:
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10
- search that for Cortana, and use the instructions at the top of the section.
Another diagnostic check you can try is to create a new user for test purposes, log in as that user, and see if you see the same.
