Adobe Acrobat files close after 10s

    hello,
I have been using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro for a number of years, it worked fine
yesterday suddenly a file I had just opened disappeared.
no error message, nothing, just pfftt... now you see it, now you don't
and all my pdf files behave the same way... 10s and they dissolve, I can always read them in a browser, but when I need to alter them, it's impossible
    a restart changes nothing
has any of you been confronted with such an issue ?
    and found a solution ?
    thanks !

Win 10 Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.592) (win made an update last night, nothing changed as far as the problem with acrobat is concerned )

I have Acrobat X Pro and had some issues (but not the same as yours).
I solved them by running it in the compatibility mode (W7).
    Maybe it helps you too.

Win 10 1909. I was using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro until recently with no problems. Now upgraded to Acrobat DC 2019 so cannot confirm your problem. Have you tried an uninstall and reinstall?

thanks to both of you, Piko and Pollensa
I had made a re-install to no avail
I just ran the compatibility mode without any change...
Acrobat DC is way too expensive for my use, I'll have to switch to some other software if I don't crack this nut

Have any of you any experience with PDF-XChange Editor ?

Have a look at PDF Shaper...

PDF Software for Windows 10 and Free PDF Tools - PDF Shaper

You really need to expand on what use you going to put the s/w to.

    thanks a lot Pollensa
it's interesting but missing the possibility to add text or graphics... and this I use a lot
actually PDF-XChange Editor does not allow this either

I keep looking for an affordable software which has this feature : add text and graphics in PDF
I need to set passwords and permissions and to sign
delete, insert or re-order the pages
fill PDF forms (but not create)
I think that's pretty much all

I don't use MS Office so I don't need a converter, though most do it - Corel WP has an in-built PDF converter (though for the time being my Adobe printer works ok, can't keep the files open but prints fine !
    )

I just updated my NVIDIA drivers, just in case... did not help

Is Acrobat XI itself crashing or do the pdf's just disappear in the program window ?

    no crash, no error message
I open a file and a few seconds later it closes without any damage
I even tried adding some text real fast and saving, and it works
but the files just won't stay open

    thanks for the link mrgeek
I see that PDFelement Standard seems to have add text and image in EDIT...
I keep it in mind to give it a try

Somewhere on Google I read with a similar issue:
I switched my default pdf programme to the windows standard one. After a few days I tried again and it was working properly.
I should say: give it a try.

"I had made a re-install to no avail"

Did you use the Adobe cleaning tool to completely remove, incl registry and pref items, before re-install ? -
