Could be the reason, although I was stumbling into my issues at about 6 am (UK) time before work. So I would of thought download activity would be low. Noticing the MS Answers forum is getting busier with complaints as the US moves into their prime time. I guess it is about 5 pm in the east and will only get worse as the west moves on (i imagine they are further behind still). Another epic fail by MS

do not get me wrong when I say this as I am not an Apple fan at all. I am firmly in the court of ‘for pc and laptop =
windows, for mobile devices = Apple/Android’ but you just don’t get these problems with Apple. Their operating systems are buggy beyond belief but their App Store whether it be on Mac OS or iOS is never down

I found that the Store was working normally this morning - so it was just a temporary glitch for me.

Totally appreciate not everyone is getting this issue. However it still exists and there is a mass of noise about it over on MS answers. people stuck in S mode (whatever that is) because of it too. Anyway in case anyone struggles with the problem. Here is a workaround to acquire new apps. I managed to get the two free ones I wanted this way. Rather than click GET , click add to cart instead. Then checkout . Now go search for that app and rather than saying GET it will
say install and on clicking that the download will commence

Oh, interesting. On one machine here the problem is also present. It is in Germany and the machine is used by my parents which usually do not try to get new apps, only by chance I stumbled over this issue.

I tried this out and I can confirm it too: I am unable to download new apps with this machine (that is the "download" button does nothing), but I am able to purchase them, even the free ones, via the shopping cart and afterward I am able to install them on this machine. It is good to see that there is a workaround, but it is still worrying.

I dropped by to say that the issue solved itself at this machine too, I tried today to download another free app and the normal method worked again. It seems that this is another quirk that can happen with the Microsoft Store, at least as long as it is still maintained.
