Is there a utility to reset all W10 permissions back to defaults?

    Hi all -

Been testing some configurations of W10 by modifying Permissions, Groups, Owners, etc.
Is there a safe utility to reset all of the above back to defaults, or should I just quickly reimage with a standard W10 install?

    Thanks in advance.

This one is just for resetting files/folders permissions. Registry might be more difficult. Just reimage.

This resets permissions for default junctions if you've messed about taking ownership of folders that you should have left alone:

    Folder name blank

    It uses setacl.exe (built in)

Also check out a tool I sometimes use:

However for serious issues reimage as suggested.

Don't use without a backup and only apply fixes that you are sure are needed.

    UVK - Ultra Virus Killer

Free version is fine. No need to upgrade to pro.

my windows 10 install started exhibiting a lot of issues after some tweaking that, oddly, only seemed to get worse with in-place upgrades - i say oddly because in-place upgrades had always worked for me in the past....

the last straw was explorer freezing for a minute plus whenever i tired to install in a new program, and windows updates and defender had also become unreliable and very sluggish... sfc scans and dsim always returned no problems and virus scans always returned a clean bill of health, but my pc was a mess.

the cause, i'm pretty sure, was messing around with disabling some services coupled with changing permissions for different folders (and in a couple of cases permissions in the registry) to get my installed programs to run more effectively.

anyway, i searched everywhere for fixes, tried a gazillion, but nothing got my pc back to great working order, so i resigned myself to the fact that i would have to do a clean install which meant a lot of time, reinstalling a bunch of programs, and setting things up just right again (it's a home theater pc).

but my last google search brought me to this thread, so i gave tweaking.com a try and, bingo, it fixed absolutely everything, in fact my htpc has never run this well.... so i just wanted to add my two cents, this program worked beautifully for me! and thanks to a ton for this thread!
