I don't in any way mean to point to any solution here, but just by way of information only, the res link 'might' be referring to the "res Protocol" related to Internet Explorer, as documented here:

Quicken for Windows REQUIRES Internet Explorer????? — Quicken
Hey guys you might have something there regarding Internet Explorer...who which is supposed to be uninstalled/removed from my PC including the folders I removed from Program Files, Program Files (x86) and the App Data folder (Im anal about removing any leftovers).
Anyways....last night right before I turned the PC off I did something...just for shits and giggles as you would say. I renamed the OpenWith.exe file in the System 32 folder to OpenWith.exe.bak just to see what would happen if that file is not available to call upon when I run PotPlayer. It gave me an error window...something about IE and a .dll file. I cannot recall but when I get home I'll do that again and screen shoot a pic to you guys so you can tell me what you think. Again thx a bunch
If it is IE related you could try removing IE (control panel, programs and features, Turn Windows features on and off) unticking IE and restarting. You could then see if you still get the message just for curiosity. Then reverse that- tick IE and restart.
Otherwise I return to the idea of an in-place upgrade repair install I mentioned way back.
So generically Pot Player is trying to open an IE link...if is following the same protocol as that person had with Quicken. I really need to check ALL settings in Pot Player to disable that if there is a remote chance that's whats happening. If any of you use Pot Player then you know that it has a vast amount of preferences beyond what you would call "advanced" so its gonna take some time.
Its weird because I have set another desktop and two laptops very damn nearly the same exact way as this desktop. I disabled IE thru "Turn windows features on or off" then I literally removed any folder related to IE I could find. Only this desktop is giving me that issue.
Well here is that error after I "disabled" the OpenWith.exe file as I mentioned in post#14. That's why I do believe is IE related. As always...thank you!
