Windows asks default program even after being set: disable this?

So, when I set a default program in the Settings app and then open a file, Windows still asks which program I want to use. Admittedly, it does this only once per file type, but this is extremely annoying in a work environment where there are numerous computers.

For example, I went into the Settings app and set the .AU3 file extension to be opened in a specific program. Then, I double-clicked an .AU3 file, and I got this window:

It has the correct default in the above image, but it asks if I want to "keep using this app." Why? Can I make this stop? It's annoying.

Having a similar issue. Except for internet explorer being the default browser. I have it set as the default browser, but when clicking links from outlook, I get that message. Windows asks default program even after being set: disable this?-internet-explorer-windows-10.png

Check the "Always use this app" box at the bottom and you shouldn't see it again.

Sorry, that's the problem. I still see the message if I check the box. If I set it to chrome or edge, it actually remembers my choice.

Have you changed the defaults in the CP?

Yes, and this is repeatable at least for me on 2 different windows 10 boxes.

Might want to browse the Microsoft/IE forum and see if it's a listed issue with a possible solution.

I know that I can click the checkbox at the bottom.

The problem is that I need this dialog box not to appear to begin with. When we deploy computers to users, we don't want them having to deal with this dialog box at all.

For anyone who finds this thread: reportedly, the Group Policy option in this thread will fix it:

New App Installed Notification - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I have not tested it yet, but another user said that the Group Policy portion indeed worked although the registry edit may not work (although I'm not 100% clear that the registry key doesn't work, as well).
