The way you like to listen to is absolutely subjective but I also believe that USB connection sounds better than any common/cheap onboard output, especially if you've paid full attention on USB cable quality which I assume you've already done.
I have. Not a $200 cable but it's good enough - AudioQuest 4 foot USB Pearl cable. And yes, USB sound overall better - tube like on my DAC.

That said, I've had a weird issue where sometimes the Teac ASIO driver would crash JRiver. Never found the cause but it seems to have sorted itself with newer releases of JRiver. And thus I find myself stick to USB more and more.

I don't know about DSD, because my DAC does not support it, but as I could see on a google "foobar2000 and DSD" search, it is supported with a little bit complicated way.
It's supported in JRiver, but the DAC also has to support it, which my Teac UD-503 does. BTW this is my DAC. I also posted my thoughts on the headphones at Head-Fi while showcasing JRiver.

In my experience, Foobar does not sound well via ASIO component and a generic ASIO driver (comparing to WASAPI component) but of course you may test it because your DAC has its own ASIO driver and the result could be better.
I've not played with Foobar2000, but in JRiver the Teac USB ASIO driver sounds smoother and less "digital" than the WASAPI component. In fact to my ears, direct-sound sounds better than WASAPI with my DAC.

Or else, you may stay on JRiver which has native DSD and ASIO support and fairly, it's the Hi-End users' favorite. IMO, JRiver has the best (full configurable) GUI, library and tools, too.
Well I do love the GUI and layout. BTW I just upgraded from version 24 to version 26. Version 26 (started in 25) supports HDCD detection and playback. All you have to do is scan your library and if HDCD files are found will be expanded to play in that format.

Columns UI probably one of the best UI components! Makes foobar twice as configurable!

    Kind of looks like JRiver…

I'd imagine Foobar's columns are customizable just as JRiver's are?

Actually that was a dumb question on my part since you already said it was configurable!

Question for all, do you guys use Plex for streaming? At home I use JRiver for home listening, but when out and about I use Plex to stream my music to my mobile devices - laptop and phone.

I've actually, just got back into enhancing my music listening experience a little heavier.
I may have been taken aback with the new foobar, the last time I installed foobar was about 6-8 years ago, and it looked like...

Aside from that, it's been mostly Winamp, sometimes MediaMonkey,

and, of course, MPC-BE for video.

    I don't stream.

That Foobar customized setup is beautiful. JRiver has nothing on that!!! Why I'm considering giving Foobar2000 a try.

You don't listen to music while out and about? That's what I mean. With Plex I can stream music from my NAS without having to download files to my phone. I've full access to my entire library.

That skin will only work on version 0.9.2!

If I streamed music while out and about, my data limit would be used up in less than 5 minutes!!! I have a 256GB microSD card in my phone.

    I get it.

BTW Plex transcodes files to fit any device it streams to so you aren't necessarily getting hi-res files thus killing your data usage. Anyway - Plex Overview.

That said, I love it because I've access to my entire music library considering Plex uses the same folders JRiver uses. Plus I don't have to use up storage space on my phone. And BTW I've got a 240gig SSD installed on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 1TB edition of storage space.

But yeah, the negative is data usage as well as being subject to internet issues. With that I use far less data listening to music than I did watching movies on Netflix.

Just found out JRiver Media Center version 26 (and version 25) finds and displays lyrics...

    foobar2000-jriver-lyrics.jpg

For those running ver. 25 and above and want to know how - NEW: Lyrics Display in Playing Now. Once enabled it will display lyrics for all tracks and albums (if available) until you disable the feature.

To enable put the player in "Playing Now" right click the album art area and choose "Display lyrics". To disable, remove the checkmark. Simple.
