    ShellfolderFix not remembering windows size/position

Recently started having problems with the fantastic little utility written by a member of the Windows 7 forums, whom I'm hoping now frequents these forums too.

For some reason, shellfolderfix 1.1.15 is no longer remembering windows sizes/positions. I've removed it, deleted the db and even removed registry entries and reinstalled. But no matter what I try, it seems to remember some things until I reboot then it forgets them. If I "Save db now" it will remember it, but I can't imagine having to do that for every single window I move or resize.

Anyone else seeing anything strange with this utility?

I don't think it's been updated for Win 10 and doesn't seem to work as well as it did in Win 7. That said, after a couple of attempts at configuring it, it's been pretty good for me. It will always open my first Windows Explorer instance at my default size and location. (Any further WinEx windows will open at the correct size but random location).

I don't know if the app actually effects 3rd party programs in any way. Most of the ones i use will remember size and location, but half of those will reopen with a small gap around the edge when they were right against the edge previously.

There are more feature rich and effective programs like Windows Manager that once configured give you total control over window size and placement. The learning curve looks steep to me though. Personally i've found 'Aquasnap', an Aero Snap replacent a big help to my OCD windows position obsession.

'Fancy Zones' in the new Power Toys might be something that's of interest to you too:

    Thanks for your reply.

I used to have a license for Windows Manager, but I had lots of grief with it. I also have 10 PCs, so when the developer jumped the price by $10 per license it was time to move on. Yes, the learning curve was and still is steep (I took another look at it recently). With great power comes great complexity.

v1.1.15 of ShellfolderFix was updated to support Windows 10, IIRC.

Up until recently it worked pretty flawlessly. Occasional forgotten window, but 99.99% of the time, perfect.

I'm starting to wonder if it might have something to do with the Windows 10 1809 November CU.. I think the issues started around the same time as I upgraded the PCs to that CU. I might uninstall that from my test PC and see if that resolves the issue - If it does, then M$ has changed something that breaks SFF.

I finally made the jump to Win10 and this has been driving me absolutely mad. what an enormous time waster it is to have to re-adjust every single window every single time.

for the first day or so it seemed like ShellFolderFix was working, but now it's not even between shutdowns that it's not registering positions.

really hope someone figures out a fix for this.

Sounds like another of those odd bugs like desktop icons moving that plague some people and not others.

god knows what I did over there.
tried to install WinSize2 and now I'm just being haunted by random tiptooltext popping up "INI file was read - has been overwritten by the user" interrupting my screen every few seconds.

    Hello,

In addition, you might also see if increasing the folder view settings cache below may help remember more.

can't speak for other users, but it's unlikely to be the reason why ShellFolderFix has stopped working, as I very much doubt I for one in a few days of use have managed to exhaust a 5000 folder default in Windows, or ShellFolderFix's 10000 max memory that I have it set to. (but I'll try anything to end this nightmare -- if they'd refund me on Win10 I'd try to put Win7 on my new setup!)

ETA: powershell says I'm at 936 currently
