I've never used a download manager. What's the purpose for it?

Post #2 - remember Kyhi's disk- problems downloading the old one? FDM was recommended then too..

And I suppose if you've a really erratic connection... old days of modems... also to pick up deliberately interrupted downloads.

I have used IDM -Internet Download Manager, for a very long time. Very good, no problems, I also use it to download videos.

If you want to specify download folders for specific file types then it's useful. May also be of use if resuming interrupted downloads. Personally I hardly ever need to use a download manager but when needed I use:

uGet Features . uGet Download Manager

    For Chrome:

uGet Integration - Chrome Web Store

    For Firefox:

uGet Integration – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)

Extensions require installation Uget Download Manager & Uget Integrator both available here:

    Installation . ugetdm/uget-integrator Wiki . GitHub

Personally I keep Uget disabled until needed then disable again after use.

My browser just remembers the last used download location. It's no hassle to either choose where to save files or else just move them from Downloads after downloading but some people seem to download tons of files in which case using a download manager to automatically sort downloads into pre-defined folders might make sense.

Download managers were great back in the '90s when using Dial-Up connections to Bulletin Boards for downloading shareware programs. Higher speeds may not always have the same issue of dropped connections.
