    Screen saver for dual monitors

I used to have a screen saver (Firehand Ember) which worked well with my two monitors but as Windows has moved on it got left behind and the person who produced it gave up! So did the screen saver. It used to display different images on the two screens - not individually, that's to much to hope for it seems. Photo A displayed on screen 1 then moved to screen 2 when new photo appeared on screen 1

Any recommendations for alternatives? I have tried the Windows one but that spreads the images across the two screens and I can't see how to change the settings for that other than pick the source of images.

    Windows 10, latest build.

Firehand ceased to exist shortly after the death of its founder and primary engineer, and my good friend, Matthew Warren Smith. Matthew worked for me for a time when our paths crossed at Microsoft, and I can honestly say that he was one of the best software engineers I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with.

The firehand.com domain lapsed in 2007, and while I tried to purchase it on his behalf I was outbid at auction. It now appears to be unused, but unavailable.

To the best of my knowledge, Firehand Ember and Lightning will no longer be updated. I’ve been asked if perhaps the estate would consider open sourcing it, or perhaps handing it off to others to maintain. I believe that the source code, and the knowledge of how to use, build and maintain it, is also no longer available.

I have yet to find a Screensaver, that's not cheezy, that will display images of user choice, in a highly configurable manner on multiple monitors...,

... with the exception of Picasa!

Thanks Edwin for that information. I often wondered why Firehand suddenly disappeared and am sorry to learn of the reason. I still use Ember, and until recently the matching Screen Saver, despite it now being so old that holes have appeared in it (due to OS changes). I never knew Matthew, but I do recall a personal exchange following a technical query I addressed to him. We ended up swapping photos our respective cherry trees which were in flower at the time!

Thanks for the suggestion - i'll have a look at that.

A contributor (Product Expert) has made the final Picasa3 setup file for Windows available at OneDrive:

Take a look at Johns background switcher - it has a few options for multiple monitor set ups

Thanks Edwin. I've got Picasa running and collecting photos. I'd forgotten how useful it was! However I can't see how to set up a screen saver using it and a lot of the Help files appear to be no longer available.

Barman - thanks for the suggestion, but this seems to be a means of switching backgrounds on the desktop. I have the Windows version doing that OK. Unless I am mistaken, this can't be used as a screen saver.

I would like to have a screen saver on both monitors as I (and my wife) find this a great way of looking at photos from years back. A lot from our early days together go back 60 years and until I scanned them, tended to languish unseen in a drawer. Now we are seeing many of them again. One drawback of course is that we sometime end up spending more time looking at old photos and not getting on with what we intended doing!

Sorry, misread the request, the wallpaper options does include several photo options, Collages and individual images on each screen, as you used to have with your previous software so It may add to your viewing options ...

there are a few apps available 3 Slideshow Screensavers Far Better Than The Windows 10 Default
or Compare gPhotoShow Features that may meet your needs, most are paid for apps, but the free versions may do what you wish.

The windows Photo Screensaver does what you need but I'm not sure if you can set a local source for the images - may be worth a look

Once you have Picasa all set up and configured, Screensaver Settings will have an entry called Google Photos Screensaver...

I've always appreciated how clean and quick the frame-less Picasa Viewer is! Faster than Photo Viewer and a 100 times faster than the Photos App!!!

You can run a Slideshow from within it too!

Well, problem solved - sort off! I have got it working via the Google Photos Screensaver. Different images appearing on the two monitors. The difficulty now is that the image is the correct size on the main monitor (3840 x 2160) but oversized on the secondary monitor (1920 x 1200). While images scale properly when displayed as desktop backgrounds, they don't on the smaller screen in screen saver mode.
But that's a problem for another thread I think!

In the meantime I'l have a look at your suggestion Barman.

    Thank you both
