Upon shut down almost without fail I delete all cookies and history from Chrome
I would not rely on cleaning apps alone. I did for a long time, then I have noticed, that the browser still remembers my history and other. I checked this and I was horrified. There was a history from months ago.
    Code:
    chrome://settings/siteData
So aside from browser's cleaning, 3rd party apps, I also do some manual cleaning.
It is for a chromium based browser, so I expect, that chrome has a similar path.
    Code:
    del "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\*history*." /s /f /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\AutofillStrikeDatabase" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\BudgetDatabase" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Cache" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Code Cache" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\data_reduction_proxy_leveldb" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\databases" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\File System" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\GCM Store" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\GPUCache" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\IndexedDB" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Local Storage" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Media Cache" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Session Storage" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Service Value Store" /s /q
    rd "%LocalAppData%\Yandex\YandexBrowser\User Data\Default\Service Worker" /s /q

I prefer bleach bit from Clean Your System and Free Disk Space | BleachBit with the winapp2.ini for a cleaner. It's free, no nagware, open-sourced and updated quite frequently (the winapp2.ini that is).

BleachBit has my vote too. Windows 10 loves throwing extra files onto your system. I can run Bleachbit, and then reboot. After I reboot run Bleachbit again... and there is over 100 files the Bleacbit cleaned up a-g-a-i-n.

I don't like any of these 3rd party type of things messing with registry.
If you've got stuff that won't uninstall properly via the standard Windows method then it's time IMHO either for a Windows CLEAN install or restore from a backup image taken without all the "oprphaned" partially uninstalled products.
Cleaners offer risk without benefit. There's no need.

Not yet. But I have taken the first step which was to uninstall CCleaner : ) I did download the portable version however and am curious to see if task manager continues to show processes associated when exiting the program as well as processes showing up even on a fresh boot when I have not even launched the program. And I do not know whether or not the portable version also phones home. The last few weeks when I have run CCleaner I have run it with no Internet so that's something I guess. BTW I never used CCleaner to do any kind of registry cleaning.

Well that's interesting. Thanks. When I downloaded the portable version the other day I saw "Slim" version but had no idea what it was and typically just moved on. I understood all the steps in the post however when it came to blocking the connection in the firewall I balked. Bitdefender firewall has taken the place of the traditional firewall and truth be told I am quite the novice when it comes around to doing stuff with the firewall. Did I understand the post correctly right below the instructions on blocking the connection in the firewall the indication was that I simply could delete the updater or was the point to block in firewall in addition (optional) deleting the updater. If I can accomplish the firewall block by just deleting the updater I would rather do that and I guess I can periodically check to see if it somehow recreates itself but I would imagine as long as the program is not updated then it might stay gone. Do you have any thoughts on the portable version vs. the Slim version? TIA.

    Well...

If you know to how edit/manage and interpret the System Registry, CCleaner should not be an issue.
I have had few problems with it over the years, though I will admit that it's starting to become a bit bloated.

The free version is just fine.

As @Callender pointed out - HDCleaner is a good alternative.

    FWIW.
