Any Danes Here --Opensubtitles to be blocked in Denmark

    Hi folks
How can a Danish Court (Denmark is one of the freest countries in the world) ban something like Opensubtitles -- How can subtitles --which so many people rely on be considered "Piracy" in any shape or form

A lot of modern films / TV shows have incredibly poor mixing even for Native speakers of the language in question. (Usually inaudible dialog and incredibly loud special effects -- and I have perfectly decent hearing and a decent command of English).

Surely using "Copyright" excuse is just B/S -- you might just as well get people banning translating the Bible / Koran etc into various languages including audio versions for visually impaired etc or stopping the whole idea of audio books in various languages etc.

I'm all in favour of stopping "Intellectual Copyright" theft and totally against Piracy but this seems a step far too far -- I'm sure the Danes will find other alternatives but I hope this isn't a trend of future things to come.

I use opensubtitles a lot when I need subtitles that haven't been made available by the original TV / Movie / DVD -- no ban here yet but we need to protect against these sorts of "Monopoly" lawyers -- a lot of people who create the subtitles on these sites do it in their own time for ZERO gain.

    Cheers

    Hi there
    @CountMike

That's not always so easy -- say I'm using an Amazon fire stick with KODI installed on it. I stream a video from my NAS -- with KODI I just click on download subtitles and get presented with the opensubtitles menu with the dropdown of subtitles found.

I'm not sure if you can "Dynamically" do this via a VPN from your fire TV stick / smart TV. I don't really want to have to set all this up on a PC before I watch a video.

I don't think though the court action will get anywhere -- but whoever knows --some of those Lawyers are looking for their mega Xmas bonuses now !!!

VPN's work in lots of situations but I don't think this is one of them if you want to dynamically load subtitles using a player like PLEX / VLC / KODI on a smart TV / amazon firestick etc.

We don't have this problem (yet) --I'm only raising concerns over what might happen if these Layers get control over the Internet -- I don't think even the CIA has gone that far yet (opensubtitles still work seamlessly in USA).

    Cheers

Take a look at Liberty Shield which is a hardware solution VPN.

it's a sub router which plugs into your existing router via ethernet, that provides VPN / Proxy protection to several wired or wireless devices. , or you can use a free APP/ Application that runs on the device.

There is a charge for the hardware and a small ongoing charge for the service.

What I like about it is you can protect the data to and from a TV app, so you do not need an application running on a device to protect it.

There is also the option to reflash some routers with replacement firmware that can convert you existing router into a VPN setup.

I find it great If i'm dealing with client confidential data I can quickly log on a laptop, or phone wirelessly and have safe routing for the data
