    Constant Google Update Helper Error

As of the first of the month I am constantly getting an error associated with Google Update Helper.

The Reliability Monitor gives me the following message:
"Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Google Update Helper. Product Version: 1.3.99.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Google Inc.. Reconfiguration success or error status: 1638."

    The Event Viewer indicates:
"Product: Google Update Helper -- Error 1316. The specified account already exists."

There is nothing in the Programs and Features for Google Update Helper nor is there a Google Update entry so I have no way of uninstalling it.

These errors are occurring at a set time. The last few days I get two an hour, 10 minutes and 22 minutes after the hour.

I sure would like to get rid of these.

The only Google products that I have are Google Drive and Google Earth.

Thank you for your reply. I suggest you research those in that context. And see links I posted on ideas to stop it running.

Google Update Helper has been found to be bundled with 3rd party software

I use Google Earth, Chrome, GoogleDrive/Mail.
You can get an odd update error in the Reliability History. Have not seen any error in a month.

That seems to be an add-on/plugin, possibly to your Web Browser(s).

Update stuff is in this folder on mine, version 1.3.35.342
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Update

If you look in the Task Scheduler Library, Google has two tasks, GoogleUpdateTaskmachineUA and GoogleUpdateTaskmachineCore.

In Services there is "gupdate" and "gupdatem" both at stop on mine, everything up to date.

I'm sure you can sort it from that info.
They may have sent you some Beta stuff to test...

I think I have tracked down the culprit. The date this first started happening I had installed the "Brave" browser. As I went through some of the things that it installed I found that some things mysteriously mirrors things installed by Google. For instance:

    1. Google installs two update related services: "gupdate" and "gupdatem". "Brave" also has two update services: "brave" and "bravem", eerily similar.

    2. Google installs two scheduled tasks: "GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore1" and "GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA1". "Brave" has also installed two scheduled tasks: "BraveSoftwareUpdateTaskMachineCore" and "BraveSoftwareUpdateTaskMachineUA", again eerily similar.

So using Autoruns, I disabled all the above "Brave" items and another registry item "Brave Installer" in "\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components". I no longer get the error messages.

I was going to ask you to look in "Services" to stop it, then uninstall. Glad you found your answer.
