Do I Need Another MS.net?

Hi all, right now I have Win 10 with Microsoft.net version 4.8.30319.0. I have tried installing a couple of free programs but they want to install MS.net version 2 first. Why would I need a lesser version of what I already have and would it hurt to have more than one version? Will the version 2 overwrite my version 4. That wouldn't be nice. Thanks in advance. CC

Let it install the ms.net version it needs. You can have many different versions concurrently installed and they don't interfere with each other.

Just let it install version 2 of .NET Framework.
The various versions are separate, not updates in the usual sense.
Some Applications you install may require that specific version.

It does not overwrite your 4.8 version.

You should have .NET framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) listed in the extra Windows features if you tick that box.
Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off.

However the application may check and install any files it needs to link to that.
