I have the above (free) software installed for a while now but have only just discovered that there is a temporary folder relating to the app. I am attaching a picture of File Explorer showing the folder.
The app is for scanning hard copies using my Epson A-I-O printer/scanner to create searchable/editable pdf (amongst other formats) files using OCR and I was wondering if the app uses the temp folder during the process. There is a sub-folder named "Licenses" so does anyone know if it is safe to delete the "WinFRSprintV12_1257_15" folder or will this stop ABBYY from working? The folder 'Properties' shows '7 Folders', '478 files', total size is 578MB and the latest file contained is dated 19th November2017 (so 2 years old).
Incidentally I believe the software is no longer available so I do not want to break the app although my system is backed-up using Macrium Reflect.
This looks like the expanded files used for installing the program- hence it's in a temp folder. Nothing to do with what's needed for your installed program to run. That will have a separate installation path.
Presumably you have a file you downloaded at some point from which this was expanded- a self extracting executable perhaps.

When the program is active, it creates its temporary folder to either store previews as cache after the program is closed, the scanned or saved files go to their default path. My opinion.

Dalchina - Yes I installed the app from an exe file "WinFRSprintV12_1257_15.exe" and, just to clarify, the 'temp' folder is not the 'C:\Windows\Temp' folder so I assume it is not required by the OS but it may be needed by Abbyy FineReader.
I was just hoping someone could tell me if it was safe to delete the folder & sub-folders without borking the program.
On the basis it's what I suggested (I have Finereader on another PC so can't readily check that) - yes. That's why it's in a temp folder. Stuff in temp folders is - temporary.
Check the creation date - should be when you installed the prog.

Macrium Reflect is scheduled to create a new full backup on 1st December so I will wait until that is done before I delete the WinFRSprint folder. I'll do another ABBYY scan after and I'll report back with the results just in case it might help others.
Easy way to check further (and really you're worrying about nothing)- use a zip program to examine your original exe file- it will behave like a zip file- you should see the content of your temp folder.
Do you remember when you installed it it said it was copying files into a temporary folder and allowed you to choose which one? That's what I think I recall.

No, I can't remember the install process but you could be right. Wouldn't you think the install process would auto-delete the temp folder after installation was completed? Maybe I am worrying about nothing. I'll report back after backup is done. Thanks for your input.
Update FYI: I realised I could save the folder to memory stick before deleting it so that is what I did. ABBYY works fine after deleting the temporary folder so, as you said, I was worrying over nothing. All I have left now is the C:\Temp folder which is empty except for a single 100 KB uninstallitems.log file so I'll leave them just in case.
All sorted now and thanks for all input. I'll mark this "Solved".
I was rebuilding my computer and came across some software I bought over 20 years ago.
It was ABBYY FineReader Pro 5.0. I remember I bought it directly from ABBYY and paid $99.
I was determined to get it working again. Here are the problems I...
Windows 10 with Microsoft Office 2016 do not support ABBYY FineReader 12.
I have to wait comparetible version.
Any other replacement products?
Thank you
