Interesting and somewhat worrying article about 7_Zip on the AskWoody site. Thoughts about it would be appreciated

Is it time to give up on 7-Zip? @ AskWoody
I’m not so concerned about individual, manual use, but the incorporation of 7-Zip binaries into other packages. An anonymous poster here on AskWoody came up with a long list of other packages that rely on 7-Zip, including WinRAR, Flash, and some .NET applications.
Be careful about unzipping downloaded SFX(Self Extracting) stuff.
Make sure you trust the sender/poster.

Logitech uses the same outdated library in Setpoint and has not updated it since 2015.There are not that many alternatives, about 95% use 7-zip as a baseline, even security products use it and they do not even bother updating it, so you might be using 7-zip 16.00 or older and you might not even know about it.

    New Beta:

    18.04 beta 2018-04-25
    -------------------------
    - The speed for LZMA/LZMA2 compressing was increased
by 8% for fastest/fast compression levels and
by 3% for normal/maximum compression levels.
    - 7-Zip now shows Properties (Info) window and CRC/SHA results window
as "list view" window instead of "message box" window.
    - Some improvements in zip, hfs and dmg code.
    - Previous versions of 7-Zip could work incorrectly in "Large memory pages" mode in
Windows 10 because of some BUG with "Large Pages" in Windows 10.
Now 7-Zip doesn't use "Large Pages" on Windows 10 up to revision 1709 (16299).
    - Some bugs were fixed.

Igor's program is a great tool; I am even using it myself. But I don't understand, why he really never releases a stable version.
    Hi there

    great tool
If you like working on something like a pet project then it's never finished !!!!! as you always can think of improvements / features etc etc/ It's not like developing something say for SHELL, IBM or MICROSOFT etc.

However I'm still using a version donkeys years old --does what I want every time.
I'll update to the new one finally I think though .

One suggestion I'd have for "The great Man" though is it seems a losing battle getting Ms to fix File explorer etc to handle long file names (directories + file names > approx 255 chars)-- if he could modify 7-zip to handle these then I'd ditch file explorer at a shot !!!.

    Cheers

Thank you! I have since the last install removed every RAR file I had. The ones I wanted to keep I extracted and re added as 7zip files. :)

It would take about 6 months of constant recompression if I'd convert everything I have to 7zip format.
