Univeral applications open/close after fresh install of 1909 ... ?

Hi to everyone. Hoping someone can help me. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 10 1909 after having read about how "great" (and "stable") this update was, etc. Thing is, almost all of my universal applications open/close automatically. The only things that work are "Settings" and "Windows Security." These two are just fine; thank goodness. I have done the following to try and fix the problem: 1) Run the SFC command in an elevated command prompt (results were fine; no corrupt files), 2) Run the All-in-One Windows Repair program from Tweaking.com (which I did in "safe mode" and picked the "all repairs" preset), and 3) Run the command to fix (reinstall) universal applications in PowerShell. I have tried using Google to find a fix, but I haven't seen anything "reliable" enough to count on as a "fix." I will keep looking, but in the meantime, I thought I'd try posting here. Thanks to whoever responds here. Will check back here. This is disappointing, since I did come from Linux (after becoming frustrated with botched Windows updates). Go figure. (Also, I did run a Microsoft "FixIt" troubleshooter; said there was no online account ... [???] I use a local account only.)

Hi, seems you're unusually unfortunate in this. What happens
    a. If you do a clean boot?
    b. If you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?

Are you happy you're correctly logging in to your normal account after the upgrade? (Can you see your library data files as usual and installed programs?)

Note: the Fixits were generally relevant some years ago and are usually obsolete now- note the editions of Windows to which they apply.

You have a Nvidia graphics card: some report the driver version as significant in this:
[Sorry in advance i'm not english native]
I had a similar problem. My Email and Calendar Apps were closing quickly after any action.
I found what causes this problem.
    Problem comes from Nvidia driver.
The beginning of these problems is when I installed the new Nvidia graphic driver (375.xx)

I uninstalled this graphic driver and I let Windows install his default (369.xx)after it restart.
Since I have no problem with these apps.

P.S.: I tried to install the new one (375.70) from default 369 of Windows
I only selected graphic driver and unchecked all others.
    I checked «new install»
    All seems ok now.

You might consider using the solution at the top here:

Permissions based approach that seemed to work:
Store apps close immediately, Event 10010 with DistributedCOM

Open/closing of Apps and their Icons going black is a symptom of updates needed to the MS Store itself and Apps (UWPs).
I use a Local Account, no worries.

Even on a fresh install of Windows 10 those UWPs, dozens of them, and the MS Store itself will need updating. If you have more than 1 user you need to switch users and do the same.

Lengthy process, as some Apps are updated 1 or 2 times a week, so very easy to get far behind.

Go to the MS Store > 3 dots > Downloads and updates > Get updates.
MS Store Settings - I do manual updates, at least feel in charge...

Once it is all updated then uninstall the stuff you definitely do not want, do that for all Users.

The vast majority of the time it is as simple as that.

Rarely, I go to Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Store Apps.

This is what I do, used Apps for 6 years thru Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Googling around gets very odd results. Never needed to use PowerShell or other complex measures, at least for this purpose.

UPDATE: The problem is still there. I tried several things: 1) Setting up a new administrator account. Interesting - not all the universal applications showed up this time. Only a few showed up. No calculator, no map, etc. Weird. 2) Starting in "Safe Mode" with my account - the universal applications wouldn't start at all (except for Edge and Settings/Security). And 3) I did try following Helmut's suggestion; I tried to reset one or two apps through "Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot," etc. Didn't work. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Everything else works OK; I don't use the universal applications, and substitute regular applications for them whenever possible (e.g., Moffsoft Calculator for Calculator), but I hate the thought of a whole bunch of universal applications not working at all for whatever reason. Thoughts? Thanks to all.

Can't see that you've looked at my post so no further comment. I assume it's not relevant. Good luck!

I did, actually. I saw "b. If you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?," and did just that. I even said so in my follow-up post: "Setting up a new administrator account." No success. Thanks anyhow.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I tried the troubleshooter in Windows 10 for the apps, etc., and got this ... (?????????)

Univeral applications open/close after fresh install of 1909 ... ?-aaaaaaaaaaaa.jpg

    FINAL UPDATE:

Bit the bullet and did a reset of Windows. Had to reinstall my programs, etc., but now the universal applications work. Crazy. I still don't understand what happened, but at least it's done now. Thanks to all.
