BBC Radio stopped on -- Smart speakers etc Alexa no good for BBC

    Hi folks

I see BBC has stopped its Radio services on Tunein - which a load of apps like smart speakers, Alexa devices etc use. Reason given is they can't collect data about their users --I assumed that the BBC was a broadcasting organisation not a Data collection service (remember "Cambridge Analytica" etc)-- seems stupid also when they are trying to encourage more radio listening and you have to login via their absolutely dreadful "Sounds" app --in any case how do you "login to a speaker with built in software " !!!!

I find smart speakers an excellent way of accessing music / radio. BBC is going backwards in this case as there are around 12,000 radio stations on Tunein including loads of public radio from USA.

BBC Blogs - About the BBC - An update on the BBC and TuneIn

IMO Bad move by an organisation that seems to be going the wrong way about acquiring more (and younger) listeners. Who has a "Steam Radio" any more apart from in a Car. !! Smart speakers are brilliant, convenient ant multi-room/ BBC is going back to "Dinosaur Technology".

    Cheers

-me! Kept mine from the '80s.

But they have introduced Britbox - saw my first free 30 day trial offer recently (didn't take it up). Sorry- I'm such a dinosaur I'd never heard of TuneIn.

I did once have a sidebar on my PC with BBC world service etc on it- I remember I was listening to that when the cable to the 4 way socket on the wall on the opposite site of the room suddenly exploded. That was in China...

I use a 1979 Grundig Yacht boy Radio, works perfectly doesn't use or harvest any internet data either and unlike DAB it works properly. No voice activated gadgets here, I still have use of my limbs.....

Must admit though I wonder why we pay the BBC a licence.

I used to use the "Radio Player" skill for stations not on Tunein, it might be worth seeing if the station you want is on their platform.
