Not Compatible with Version of Windows

Greetings all. This is my first post so hopefully it is the correct forum.
I came across Access 2000, I know nothing about DB so for something to do I installed it on my computer.
I also bought the "Access 2000 Bible", by Cary Prague, which included a CD with the practice files. These files for some reason are in an EXE file format. When I attempt to open them I get the error message. I realize Im dealing with ancient software and I understand it not being compatible. The question is why isn't it and what is my solution?
    Any suggestions is much appreciated!!

    Thank you..
    Richard

    Im on an HP.

This is just a guess, but Windows 10 X64 cannot run 16 bit software.

Some 32 bit software used a 16 bit installer.

If you have access to an X86 (32 bit) Win10 PC, you could try it on that.

    Best of luck.

I had a similar issue with an older program but the installer in the root of the DVD was the problem. Looking through the Folders on the disc I found another setup.exe file that let me install the program.

It is, as already suggested, most likely a 16-bit .exe. It's also most likely to be a self-extracting .zip archive. If so, you should be able to open it and extract the contents with 7-Zip's File Manager.

You may even be able to open it with Windows 10's own File Manager. Copy it to your PC, rename it from *.exe to *.zip and try opening it that way.

If you search, you can find the books as eBooks online for little or no cost. I personally would look at using a free dB like Google Forms which uses Google Sheets for the tables. If you are not looking at the forms part but more of the database part, MySQL is the go to in creating very powerful databases.

In Access, you are just creating forms as the front end and they are very generic. The books are nice, but watching the videos are very helpful. There are plenty of online free courses available. 6 Best + Free Microsoft Access Training & Course [2019] [UPDATED]

Look at these Capstone courses also. Microsoft | edX

Look at those local facilities like colleges and adult teaching programs that are free that may offer courses in these IT areas.

    blugo,

If you are doing this as a deliberate attempt to learn how to use MS Office Access then I'd recommend buying Access 2007 or newer. And I agree with @bro67 about trying to find free training manuals online.

There are lots of internal changes and changes to the programming language [VBA] up to Access 2007 but everything you learn to do in Access 2007 onwards will still work in Access 2010+ so your self-training will stay relevant for much longer.

Access 2007 continues to run quite happily in Windows 10 despite being out-of-date for support.

I have been using Access since Access 95 [including using Access 2000 for about 5 years] and have stuck with Access 2007 since its Beta versions in 2005/6. Access 2007 contains many improvements over earlier versions but later versions do not really add much capability unless you are using it in a corporate environment [in which case your IT dept would tell you never to use Access anyway because they are all brought up to hate it].

    Best of luck,
    Denis
