Excel will not use Thunderbird to email spreadsheet on Windows 10 Pro

My lady friend wants an idiot proof system (if there is such a thing), one aspect of which is to email an Excel sprreadsheet to a group of fundraising friends.
From my own PC running Win 7 I can do this by the 'usual' method of Alt+F+d and it will email using Thunderbird.

On her Windows 10 Pro laptop the email option is not there ony a fax option.

I have set Win 10 default email app to Thunderbird but no joy.

    Any suggestions?

    That confuses me.

She has no email option on her laptop, but you have set Thunderbird to be her default email option on her laptop?

If T-bird works on her machine, the standard method would be to use the paper clip in the upper right of the compose screen to "attach" the Excel file.

Can she use T-bird AT ALL?

    I must be misunderstanding something.

I was trying to keep it simple, she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer but kind natured.
If i could emulate what I can do thenwhen she gets twined up I can talk her step by step.

if we can't sort why Win 10 Excel won't see T-B as the main email client then we'll just have to go with your suggestion.

I should have said Win 10 pro 64 bit?

Is Thunderbird installed on her laptop?
Is it set as the default E-mail Program? I suspect it is not.

Open Control Panel, click on Default Programs.
Click on Set your default programs.
Click on the Icon under E-mail and make Thunderbird the default.

    That should fix it.

As I originally stated, "I have set Win 10 default email app to Thunderbird but no joy."

This is not a windows 10 problem. This sounds like an EXCEL problem, but I'm not an Excel expert, I use it but not to its potential. Maybe you should post this question in the Email/Browser section ?

I like to finish the file [any type], Save it then later create a message then Attach that file. With Microsoft Office I also like to Save as the older file format of .doc or .xls instead of .docx or .xlsx to assure the recipients can open them. The formats changed beginning with Office 2007 although there used to be a downloadable Compatibility Pack for use with the new formats on the older Office 2000, Office XP/2002 and Office 2003.
