Setting default program by file type

I am trying to set programs by file type. In Settings, when I "select a default" I am presented with some Microsoft apps or "Look for an app in the Microsoft store." What I want is a "Browse" option so I can choose my own program that I've installed. Why is that not available in the Settings?
    Thanks for any help/tips.

Welcome to the forums the best way is in explorer find the file and right click and choose open with click default when you selected it. In settings-apps at the top have you got it set to use apps from everwhere or just the store?

See this tutorial, Option Two, Step 3.

More apps = Will list more apps to select from, and give you more options.

    • Look for another app on this PC = Allows you to browse to and select an app to open this file with.

Choose Default Apps in Windows 10
