I'm trying to save snipping tool, What DLLs/dependencies does it use?

So basically I'm on Win10 1903 and it's telling me that snipping tool is moving to snip&sketch, so i tried it, and hated it

So now I'm trying to save snipping tool, so baby steps were to copy it into it's own folder and see if it works.. no luck. Just gives me a blank error. So I searched far and wide for it's dependencies and DLLs and found these:

    hal.dll
    SnippingTool.exe.mui

So i thought that by giving it these (and the respectable folder that the mui goes in) it would at least spit out a comprehensible error message (like telling me what DLL is missing) but nope, nothing. So can some people tell me what DLLs and dependencies snipping tool is using so I can try and save it from it's inevitable death in a future windows 10 update
    Thanks :)

You will need one folder and several files & matching language files - mui's
although you may not need all - these are file dependencies
    Code:
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\fsdefinitions (Folder)
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tabskb.dll
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tiptsf.dll
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tpcps.dll
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\InkObj.dll
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\en-US\tabskb.dll.mui
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\en-US\tiptsf.dll.mui
    \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\en-US\InkObj.dll.mui
    \Windows\System32\clbcatq.dll

Last May, I wrote a blog post about this. It's entitled "Rescue Old Windows 10 Applications from Oblivion." It uses Snipping Tool as its example, so you will see exactly what you need to save there to get it preserved for future use. Think of it as a text-based explanation of @Kyhi's excellent preceding post.

Thanks for your help, but after copying all of those files I still get this blank error message

    Hi Ed.

I just went looking for this, but your link is not working.
Edit: I think I found it posted on another site.

Are you able to post what files we need?
Or maybe someone has already compiled them.

The Snipping Tool is still available in Win10 as is Snip & Sketch which was/is intended as its replacement. Snip & Sketch lives in my Win11 IP Dev version but it's just called Snipping Tool.

I like the simplicity of Snipping Tool. Snip & Sketch is a poor replacement.
If no-one manages to salvage Snipping Tool and gets it to run before it's removed, I have found something similar to it.

Sniptool gets very good reviews. You can either install it or download the portable version. And it has only recently been updated. So it is still in development.

It is also available in the Microsoft Store.

These two files in the folder order this link specifies has been working for me.

    Snipping Tool

Best to copy them both out of C:/Windows/System32 to another location, otherwise eventually they'll be removed by a future update.

Thank you, Farvatten, but it doesn't work.
I have the same problem as M1ghty boy posted above.

If you have saved a working copy, can you please share it?
