    Cannot Install Google Earth

Brand new install of win10. Every day another hassle.

Today I go for google earth and realise yep, I haven't put it back yet.

    So go to download/install it.

First I get a google chrome error: 0x80070005.

Hassle around, googling and finish up with a google earth downloading app error: 0x80070057.

Hassle around some more, different downloads of GE and finish up with an error 'Code 2'.

    It's hopeless.

    I can't get anywhere.

Can anyone help, anyone got any idea what's perhaps going on here?

    These look like Windows errors.

Since you said brand new install I assume 1903.

    Please run

    sfc /scannow

and see what it reports. If errors present run two more times. If on the third time (first scan and then the additional two) you still have errors run a repair install. Always back up data.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

After that please confirm all updates installed. You should be at build 18362.388 (found by issuing Winver command in run box).

    Thank you.

I ran it. No integrity violations. I am at 18362.388

I hope there's some other avenues of investigation...

It is a known problem for a long time with the Google cache installer. Look for this key
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Update\Clients in the registry and delete the associated key for GE.

Update Google Earth Pro - Google Earth Help Try the 32bit vs 64bit installer.

I only have this single 'client state' key. Delete it?

I tried the 32 bit installer some time back. It didn't work either.Cannot Install Google Earth-screenshot-8-.png

That key may be for cheome. You can try installing the 32bit version.

How To Monitor An Attempted Install Process?

I can't install Google Earth. I get a 'code 2' error and the only information I have been able to get on that is that it is a MS error code and means 'file not found'.

I'd like to know what file it is looking for.

I'm not getting that info from Google just right now.

Does anyone know of a tool I can use to track exactly what goes on when an installer like Google Earth installer tries to install?

I'm thinking of something like a packet sniffer that works internally I guess.

I couldn't find anything in event viewer. I'm not much savvy on it though, perhaps it can be configured somehow to provide me with better information?

And lastly perhaps this is a very technical question (though I'm not a very technical person) and would be best directed at a specialist technical forum in which case does anyone know an appropriate forum, because I don't. :)

To resurrect an old thread, the fix for this is to download the full installer and use that, rather than the minimal cache installer: Update Google Earth Pro - Google Earth Help.
