Many 3rd Party Apps' icons SOMETIMES missing from START page.

About two months ago I decided to de-clutter my desktop, and populated my Start Screen with about 80 small tiles, each with its own icon. Most of the tiles are to 3rd Party Apps, but several are to Windows facilities such as 'Control Panel' and 'Windows Update' and more. Other tiles are just links to websites. It worked well and I like the result. However, every now and then, the majority of the icons are not displayed after startup. The tiles are still there, but are completely blank, and hovering over with the mouse reveals the name of the app or website. In this state of blankness, the tile can still be used to fire up the app or to navigate to the website. It is just the icon that is missing.
I have done some investigation, and have found that if I shut down explorer.exe and then start it up again, the problem is solved......until the next time it happens. I can see no way of predicting when the failure will occur again.
    Any ideas, anyone?

Hi, I can't offer a reliable fix for an erratic problem with your start menu: if you care to search tenforums you will find a number of threads on this symptom.

You could try clearing the icon cache e.g. see:

It seems some people experience difficulties with Win 10's start menu, alas - I sometimes wonder how it is that MS can't manage to produce as robust a start menu as

Open Shell (free) which is far more flexible and feature rich and intuitive (just no tiles).
    - combines the best of XP and Win 7 style menus with a configurable appearance and search box, full drag 'n drop support and skins.

You can use either Win 10's menu or Open Shell with that installed- it's just a program using data from folders.
    Download Open-Shell (Formerly Classic-Start) - MajorGeeks
