Windows live photo gallery - screen not repainting after updating

I have been using Windows (live) photo gallery (WLPG) for many years, even though it has long been unsupported. I've not found another tool that is as easy to use to caption and tag photos. Just recently (I suspect after a windows update) it has developed an annoying feature in that the screen does not repaint itself after updates have occurred to the content. For example, dragging and dropping the photos elsewhere or renaming files. Pressing F5 will repaint the screen but it is a pain to have to do it after every operation.
I've searched the internet but, since the product is unsupported, have not found any recent posts that might suggest what the problem and/or solution might be. I did find a post about a similar problem with Windows File Explorer but the suggested fix does not work with WLPG.
    Any clues or suggestions?
    Thanks

An update - I believe that I have solved the problem. So I am posting the solution here just in case anyone else ever has the same or similar issue.
A couple of years ago, I fitted a bootable SSD and moved all my data folders to the original hard drive which was mapped with a different drive letter. I, obviously, remapped all my libraries to point to the folders on the new drive. This worked well for a couple of years. Recently, Windows must have decided to remap some folders in my libraries back to non-existent folders on the C: drive. I only noticed this problem in WLPG when I tried to copy a photo and it told me that it did not exist. After correcting the folder names in the Photo library definition, it appears that the screen updates are working again.
