One Drive problem

When I click START and get a long list of all the apps installed on my machine I see that One Drive is there. However, when I click the One Drive icon I get nothing; absolutely nothing, as if I had not clicked One Drive at all.
I should like to start using OD but I can't figure out a way to even get started. I only want to put one file there so I can get to it on a tablet and work on the file when I am not at home. Can anyone, please, give me a pointer or two of what is going on and what I am doing wrong?

Hi, you might try this:
Reset OneDrive to fix OneDrive problems on Windows 10

If that doesn't work, you might try installing Onedrive from the Store.

A One Drive icon does not appear on my desktop.

This has little significance. Many people hate having icons, files or folders on their desktop, and just want a pretty picture.

Thanks, Dalchina.
I uninstalled OD and installed the latest version which I d/l from their site. Then I uninstalled that also because I still could not get it to work. Next, I got some space on a third-party server based right here in Ottawa and u/l my file. I tried going there and working on the file from my wife's laptop and it worked perfectly. SO, no OD for me. Under the circumstances I don't know if I should mark the "problem" as solved; so, when in doubt, do nothing.

Hi, there is this page - don't know if it will help. There used to be a 'desktop' (download and install- not app) version too. (This is GB- you might want to find your local version)

Did you get a prompt to log in to your Onedrive account when you started Onedrive?

If Onedrive is running, you should see a tray icon like a little cloud, and Onedrive in the Navigation pane in file explorer.

If you click on the tray icon you should see something like this:

For those that might be interested..there are some alternative application's available that are free and offer more storage than microsoft one drive. Thank you very much one and all for your assistance.
1. I d/l the most recent version of OD, installed it and uninstalled it three times.
2. After installation OD is in the list when I click START but nothing happens when I click the OD icon; NOTHING !
3. As mentioned earlier, I gave up on OD, got some space on a third-party server, and everything is working fine.
4. At no time did I get a cloud icon in the notification area.
5. I will not mark this as solved in case there are others who are suffering the same frustration.
6. Once again, thank you all.

Suggest you try a clean boot and make sure you don't have conflicting security software running for example.

Forgive this old geezer, dalchina, but I wouldn't know where to start to do what you suggest: clean boot ? make sure you don't have conflicting security software ? I think for now I shall leave well enough alone. But thank you for not giving up on me; you are almost always the first to come to my aid and such assistance does not pass me unnoticed I assure you.

This works:

1 Open File Explorer, type %localappdata% in addressbar and press Enter to go to C:\Users\YourUername\AppData\Local folder:

2 Now in AppData\Local folder, browse deeper to folder Microsoft\OneDrive (please notice, I have relocated Users folder to drive E: so screenshot shows it instead of C: drive. In your case, it should be on C: drive):

If you have only one folder there with a numerical version number as folder name, open it. If you have more than one folders with version number as folder names, open the one with latest version number.

3 In that folder, you'll find OneDriveSetup.exe file. Double click to run it:

4 OneDrive Setup runs:

5 When finished, right click OneDrive icon in notification area and select Settings to add your account:

That's it. Works every time.
