Dell's Support Assist is nothing than bloatware. I suggest uninstalling it completely.
Instead, use your Service Tag number and visit this website...

Then you could download all software that is keyed to your system.
As for testing it, you can run Dell's Pre-Boot Diagnostics which will check your hardware for any major problems.

Click only on the "Built-in or Offline Diagnostics" tab - nothing else.
