Excellent cookie cleaner sought (not Ccleaner) - ideas?

In Chrome I have third party cookies blocked globally and then whitelist as needed on a per site basis.
If you click on the padlock in the address bar it will list cookies in use, click on that and allow/block as needed.

Likewise with uBlock Origin, set per site for those trusted sites that need more access to work properly.

Finally thought to try what the Bank of Scotland staff had mentioned.

Recently, in preparation for the coming need to receive a text message to confirm your device is trusted (which is intended to be once only for that device), if the device is not already 'trusted' the BoS puts up 3 prompts after logging in asking for confirmation that the device is to be trusted.

That works inasmuch if I don't run Ccleaner I don't see those prompts again.

Tests show that what the staff said 'It's cache and cookies' (but declined ever to say which cookie) is entirely true.

I can protect and clean cookies, and as long as I don't clear the cache I don't see the prompts again.

Thus the bank is depending on the browser cache to record the state of the 'device' as trusted.

I have confirmed this with several attempts. If I deselect clearing FF's cache in Ccleaner and run it, the prompts do not recur. If I select that and run Ccleaner, they do.

Now what do you think of that as a mechanism? If I clear the cache, after September, I'll need to respond to a text message to be able to log in?

Same if I
- clean install
- completely reinstall the browser
- use a different (untrusted) browser

And of course, if I use a different PC.

To the banks, a 'device' is not a PC, it's a particular browser on that PC.

In normal mode can't you just white list cookies like this How to Block Cookies (Except for Sites You Use) in Any Browser

Thanks - I'm looking for a generic solution as I don't wish to manipulate cookies on a per browser basis- and with Ccleaner allowing wild cards in 'Keep' that should do. Interestingly Wise disk cleaner lists far more of the cookies present than Ccleaner.

There are cookie editor add ons available for FF that will give you far more control granularity than stock FF does...

Never used it but I found this...MAXA Cookie Manager
Multi browser and it has a portable option too, which could be handy for enforcing your whitelists/blacklists, blocked domains et al onto any PC you happen to be using, or clean OS/browser installs et al.

I can't find any reviews for it and it looks like the last update was a year ago, so...

That looks interesting.. thanks! Sadly not freeware..
Of course I did some searching, the difficulty is finding something reliable that really does do whitelisting properly across some typical browsers (FF, Edge, Chrome) as a one stop option.

Aah yes, just looked at the comparison page, all the good whitelist/blacklist stuff is reserved for the pro paid for version.

Another possibility would be to use a portable version of FF specifically set up for banking, and use that on every PC?
