Program Path Program Files (x86) in Command Prompt needed!

    Hello,

Because my mother got a nasty virus on her laptop (Windows 10), I have to open the Program Files (x86) folder in command prompt. But I don't know the right path to get into the folder.
I started the system with an usb drive. You can find a picture attached. The german error message means the system can't find the path denoted.

Does anyone know what I typed in wrong and what I can type in correctly?

On the laptop there is only one user's account "Forename Lastname".

    Thank you!

    Hi, you need
    cd "C:\Program Files (x86)"
Assuming C: is really your Windows drive as viewed from there- which it may not be.
What are you hoping to achieve by accessing that?

Is the PC bootable? Or do you need a live boot disk?

There are downloadable bootable antivirus disks.

Note: for the future - I guess- using disk imaging routinely is a good way to provide ultimate protection against non-recoverable situations, viruses, ransomware. This site frequently recommends it

    E.g. Macrium reflect (free).

Can be configured to run on a schedule if the backup medium is left on line, which is not the most robust option of course.

    Welcome to TenForums.

You appear to be booting from a Windows install USB to get to a command prompt. When you boot like this different drive letters may be used, the Windows partition may well not be the C: drive. You can use Diskpart to see what letter it is using. At the command prompt use the following commands:

    DISKPART
    LIST VOL
    EXIT

Here you can see my Windows system appears as the D: drive when booted from the install media.

    1) Insert a bootable windows 10 iso into any USB drive:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

    2) Power on and click the applicable keyboard key to boot to the external USB hard drive:
List of PC brands with their corresponding hot-keys
If it is a custom computer you will need to temporarily modify the BIOS boot order so that the external USB hard drive is on top.

    3) It may take 5 - 10 minutes for the iso to load while viewing the windows icon

    4) Click preferences for language, time, currency, and keyboard or click next

    5) Do not click install.

    6) In the left lower corner click repair your computer.

    5) Click troubleshoot

    6) Open command prompt > Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe > X:\Sources>

The same Windows advanced troubleshooting menu or Recovery Environment (RE) also has options for startup repair, system restore, etc.

Great news. I second dalchina's recommendation to make a system image with something like Macrium Reflect Free once you have a clean machine. First though I would check that you have found everything. I'd scan it with ADWcleaner and Defender Offline just to make sure.
